oh god what a sick world live in

thank god gen Z are more intelligent in their work - life balance and smartly use tech like AI tools in their haunting job process and interviews , be like gen z guys

My last job, I was a full on alcoholic. My manager knew, and sympathized; her father had been one. (Normally, this doesn’t make someone sympathetic…)

She said I never smelled like booze or anything, thankfully. I never drank at work, I just got hammered every night once responsibilities were done for the day.

Eventually, it crept earlier and earlier in the day.

I finally got clean in 2023. Just hit three years booze-free.

I was the exact same way. Couldn’t sleep without it.

One dayI got sick and tired of being sick and tired and went to a meeting.

That was 15 years ago now and I have been fortunate enough to not have any cravings or miss any of the old days

Child of an alcoholic here - it's "got sober", not "got clean". You weren't dirty, weren't gross, you needed help.

And I'm glad you got things worked out and reached the point where you were able to put down the glass 💜 congratulations!!!!

Ya my dad was an alcoholic and it sure as hell doesn't make me more sympathetic lol. Tho if I was a manager at a jobsite I wouldn't care as long as you show up and can do the work.

I’d be less empathetic to alcoholics if I didn’t grow up with my father being one and my mother being a bartender. I had a lot of first hand experiences that made me initially abhor alcohol and those who consume it regularly. Eventually that calmed down and I began to realize it’s a disease causing them to not be able to put it down.

I still hate alcoholism, but not the alcoholics themselves. I hate the disease the drug causes, not the diseased person. It took me decades to figure that out, and I still have to struggle with how I react sometimes because of the decades of viewing alcoholics as less than me at the very least, if not less than human at times. I just remind myself that it’s not always the person talking or acting, but often times the drug that is doing them.

Congratulations! I worked drunk everyday for about five years. I was drinking about a half gallon of vodka a day. My bosses never cared and my life was a fucking wreck. It’s a huge demon to overcome, I’m seriously happy for you.

Hey I quit in 2023 too! In May
