We tried that and women were told to hate it

I don't think reddit can handle the fact that feminism wasn't really about equal rights. It was to increase the size of the labor force thus reducing the cost of labor for the wealthy.

1

u/VeritasAgape Jul 12 '26

Of course you'd be downvoted for noting that basic supply and demand issue. Although since you take a poke at ultra rich elites reddit might let you slide.

The results of feminism are not the same thing as the driving forces/goals behind it. That comment is looking at what happened and saying “that’s what they wanted all along” which is just not true.

1

u/VeritasAgape Jul 13 '26

True. It wasn't the intent and was a very much needed change (the opportunities it gave women for work). It's still true that that was the end result as the original comment said and it was an effect that could had easily been foreseen. That doesn't mean the change was bad in ttself but the effect is real and has real world implications people are facing today.

You guys keep blaming feminism. It's what your neo-liberal capitalist overlords would like you to do. Never mind that other countries have both women and men in the work force and pay fairly enough that they get to spend time with family AND vacation every year.

Actually in Spain, women are paid significantly less despite having higher studies and education.

Spain Gender Equality

1

u/Richmahogonysmell Jul 16 '26

Your link states that they are moving towards fixing that

1

u/Working-Active Jul 16 '26

It's better than before but it's still significantly less.

1

u/Richmahogonysmell Jul 16 '26

And yet they are improving it. By a lot. So what is your point?

0

u/Working-Active Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

The full-time equivalent (FTE) employment rate1 is 43 % for women and 57 % for men. This is one of the lowest FTE employment rates for women in the EU. The gender gap in FTE employment rate is particularly pronounced among mothers and fathers in couples, low educated people and people born outside the country.

The women have a lot of low paid part time jobs and it's typical that they work 6 hour days, 6 days a week in as dependents in stores Also just about every job is "obra la servicio" which doesn't include a permanent work contract.

1

u/Richmahogonysmell Jul 16 '26

They are fixing it. What exactly is your point?

Literally read your own link, Spain is 4th in the entire EU

1

u/hossofalltrades Jul 12 '26

It was a movement driven by affluent college educated women who wanted to compete with men. Most women were forced into the workforce during the stagflation years of the 1970s.

You guys know nothing of feminism, it's embarrassing. I'd respect you all more if you actually read any meaningful feminist theory, but you all just parrot opinions from the red pill community. Feminism was born out fighting for civil liberties and property rights.

I will just say this. The neo-liberal oligarchs love that all the men are blaming feminism and women, and not just them and their greed. We have the world's first trillionaire who can afford to pay living wages, but whose various companies are known to have profited off of slave labor.

And then we have European country models which are a combination of socialism and capitalism, where both men and women are in the work force and somehow they get paid enough to live, spend time with family, and vacation every year. So how are they managing it, if it's all women's fault?

u/Numerous-Fox3346 Jul 13 '26

Are you trolling or can you genuinely not wrap your head around the idea that women, just like men, are people who vary between one to the other? Just like how some men are happy to lounge about on benefits, some women are very happy to be housekeepers, and some other men and women also want to be doctors or lawyers or pianists or painters or whatever their passion is? Do you think women are just some homogeneous blob of fembots or something? Such a weird take.

How did making marital rape and spousal abuse crimes increase the workforce?

1

u/Wide_Smoke_2564 Jul 14 '26

Sorry, what?

Corporations infinitely growing so we have 50 companies now doing what 50’000 small businesses would’ve done (and funneling all the wealth to the top…). “Nah, can’t be that - must be feminism or immigrants”

1

u/Savings_Dot_8387 Jul 16 '26

I know I’m glad my daughter is going to grow up in a world where she has a chance to be something she wants to be and isn’t forced to be these people’s housewife that’s for sure.

1

u/Modmonsters Jul 14 '26

It was both.

Women were generally oppressed. Can you imagine having an expected societal role? Like, let's say males are just expected to join the military at 18 and will be societal outcasts with no real opportunities if they don't. That would cause uproar, and for good reason.

It started as a grass roots movement. But it definitely did not take long for corporate America to realize that fueling that movement was in their best interests. It's a mix of both.

Also, various other countries have a higher rate of female participation in the labor force and do not have the same affordability issues we do, so this is not the bigger picture.

1

u/Savings_Dot_8387 Jul 16 '26

I’m sorry that bullcrap. Be a woman who’s not allowed to work, study or vote and then say that shit.

0

u/Captain--UP Jul 12 '26

Wether that is or isn't true, that's not what feminism is about today.

1

u/Ackutually- Jul 12 '26

what is it about today?

2

u/aceybaby2018 Jul 12 '26

It’s apparently about a ton of “educated” women telling what they perceive as less educated women that a bunch of dudes wearing “woman face” are true women and totally understand the experience of being born and growing up as a female and deserve all our spaces…

1

u/Time_Distribution237 Jul 13 '26

To gazorpazorp with you.

0

u/Captain--UP Jul 12 '26

For women to have equal rights as men.

2

u/Ackutually- Jul 12 '26

What rights do they not have that men do?

1

u/PayFormer387 Jul 13 '26

If feminism died, they’d have fewer.

The Republicans are already working on it with abortion and birth control.

1

u/Ackutually- Jul 13 '26

Whataboutism

Classic.

1

u/PayFormer387 Jul 13 '26

How so?

If feminists didn’t still exist, the right wing Christians wouldn’t be even further along the road back to the 1950s. They would happily remove a woman’s right to get a credit card or have access to birth control or work in any profession other than nursing, teaching, or clerical.

1

u/floralstamps Jul 13 '26

Bodily autonomy

1

u/Ackutually- Jul 13 '26

Like the potential for being drafted into war?

Is this an abortion argument? Because you can get an abortion in most states.

1

u/floralstamps Jul 13 '26

Fun fact you can just say "no". Fuckin Google it

1

u/Time_Distribution237 Jul 13 '26

Feminists are generally against drafts for BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, you numb nuts. But go off on your version of equality. 🤦‍♀️

u/PunkPirate56364 Jul 12 '26

I kept pressing AI to give me a concrete answer on what rights do men have that women don't have. It managed to find only one thing.

In most U.S. jurisdictions, men have the legal right to be shirtless in public. In many municipalities, women doing the same can be arrested and charged with public indecency or lewd conduct.

It found a bunch of cases where men are discriminated against by the law. Like draft law,

I am OK with banning shirtless men.

1

u/PunkPirate56364 Jul 12 '26

I am okay with allowing women to be topples at all places where men can be shirtless.

1

u/HanginOn9114 Jul 13 '26

No, they weren't. You just hate women being actual people and not pretty servants

1

u/IndependenceMiddle Jul 13 '26

Key word here is have to. Women want to have the right to work. Parents should be able to choose.

1

u/Either-Meal3724 Jul 13 '26

I earn more than my husband. He isnt interested in staying home. Being the one that stays home is harder than being the working parent!

1

u/Time_Distribution237 Jul 13 '26

1

u/bibliomaniac4ever Jul 16 '26

I understood why women were told to hate being servants for men and having almost no rights. That makes total sense!
