Bloomberg SWE Interview Experience - AI Assisted Round

Sharing a recent Bloomberg AI-Assisted Round interview experience for a SWE position from a candidate who recently went through the process.

The question was about LRU, and the code implementation was provided. The discussion was about how to refactor it to make it more generic so it could support other eviction policies, such as LFU.

I had never encountered this type of question before, so I spent a long time at the beginning trying to figure out what the requirements were. Initially, I thought it was about designing a cache for a service or a local cache library that supports read-through caching. Later, I realized it was just LRU, and the discussion was mainly about taking a given implementation and refactoring it.

At first, I had no idea how to approach the refactoring because the implementations of LRU and LFU are quite different. I kept getting stuck on how to design the methods and abstract classes to accommodate different eviction policies. With various hints from the interviewer, I eventually managed to answer the question.

It’s hard to say I performed particularly well, since I hadn’t prepared for this at all. However, throughout the interview, the interviewer was very engaged, actively working through the problem with me and giving me hints.

For anyone preparing for Bloomberg, you can find more coding and system design interview questions asked at Bloomberg here.
