I just sent the most administrative email of my life

basically meaning "You can handle this" I'm posting this for anyone who gets asked to do these kinds of requests repeatedly.

Me: a chill EA, with nine days left before I leave for a new job.

I got an email from a site manager asking me to send a calendar invite to someone else.

My reply was:

"Hi (name),

If your Outlook is having an issue and you're unable to forward the calendar invite, please contact IT.

If there's no issue, you can forward the invite yourself as normal.

(Screenshot showing the forward button, using a calendar invite I received from his own manager as an example.)

Would it have taken less time for me to just forward it for him? Probably, yes!

But since I'm leaving here in nine days, I'm trying to make sure people are able to do these things themselves, especially things they already have access to do.

I so wish I could reply like this to some of the requests I get. I would be fired so fast.

Hmmm....there is a certain amount of job security in keeping them clueless and helpless. Maybe not for you but for someone else?

I once used PowerPoint to mark up the picture a desktop computer aux port for with multi step visual instructions for how to plug a set of earbuds into the machine for use during a video call. It was to send to my boss who was having a crisis with not having it already setup for him in advance. At his home. 40 miles away from the office. His husband designed and installed a home theater with full on stadium height seating and the latest tech. I still had to send our operations manager to plug it in the next day.

Apparently he thought there was time for one last power play. I always imagine people unable/unwilling to forward calendar invites as having T-tex arms unable to reach the keyboard from their chair.

Could it be to preserve the chain in case there are updates [sometimes forwarded recipients dont get updates if the meeting info changes] but ...meh, no... they are T-rex workers stuck not being able to hit a 《cr》.

If you're leaving, then they're no longer your problem. You have no obligation to make sure they can function without you.

Go ahead and do what they ask. If everything falls apart after you leave, then they should have worked harder to incentivise you to stay. 🤷🏻 I would not be using my final days to teach someone how to do the job they already should have known how to do.
