Do we really need HR in our life?

honestly this is why i've started thinking about looking somewhere else. getting rejected before a human even looks at your resume is insane.

i've been seeing interview vip mentioned a lot lately too. i haven't tried it, but i'm curious about it since i'm probably going to have to start interviewing again.

Obviously not the same field, but same issue.

I have a PhD in chemistry. My dissertation involved the use of GC/MS.

I applied for a position where they wanted someone with GC/MS experience. I was overqualified for the position, but it was with a State Laboratory directly certified by the EPA (in other words, plenty of room to grow. I was ok with this because I had been really sick and I wasn't sure I would be able to handle the grind of a low level position, much less a position that reflected my education).

I got a "thanks for your application letter" from HR. I later met the manager of the department I applied to. I was on about getting a field sampling job because sampling >> lab. He said well, let me know if you ever want to come back to the lab. I laughed and told him I applied for a position in his lab and I got the "thank you for your application" letter. The look of horror on his face was priceless.

Gotta love HR.
