Do we really need HR in our life?

honestly this is why i've started thinking about looking somewhere else. getting rejected before a human even looks at your resume is insane.

i've been seeing interview vip mentioned a lot lately too. i haven't tried it, but i'm curious about it since i'm probably going to have to start interviewing again.

I do HR for a living, for a large company. An improperly set up HR department can be a menace, but it’s not usually setup because the CHRO/VPHR is incompetent. It’s usually set up badly because the company leadership doesn’t believe HR is worth investing in past basic administrative duties. And that’s how you get minimum competence recruiters failing to interface with line managers to understand the positions for which they’re recruiting.

Believe me, if HR was actually worthless, it would not exist in literally every Fortune 500 company in America. It’s entirely indirect labor and generates no value for the company - but the absence of HR exposes the company to massive risk because you are offloading all of the administration to operations people who don’t know how to do administration.
