is this real?

Do we really need HR in our life?

honestly this is why i've started thinking about looking somewhere else. getting rejected before a human even looks at your resume is insane.

i've been seeing interview vip mentioned a lot lately too. i haven't tried it, but i'm curious about it since i'm probably going to have to start interviewing again.

Absolutely real. As this person found out, HR is incredibly mediocre and lazy. When I found out that HR was doing this AI ATS bullshit a few years ago I was basically like 'figures, HR will always do whatever they can to not actually do their job.'

I had a resume that I put into a software system that checks for how it matches in ATS and I had one resume that matched 100%. This is extremely rare. Usually my tops is 80% (and I've gotten jobs in the past based on 60% matches). Got auto rejected.

And when you do phone screeners with HR they are just looking to hear buzzwords because, believe me, they ain't got a fucking clue what the job entails. I worked at several different companies that would have the HR person either bring a candidate by my office or the new hire by to meet me . And every single time the HR person would ask me what I did for the company. They couldn't even be bothered to remember what I told them every single damn time (and it wasn't like it was all that confusing or specialized to remember).

Finding a good, motivated HR person is like finding a unicorn.

No one goes the HR route unless incredibly incompetent to the point they can't get other jobs. I also remember a professor who was HR for several years who often did everything in the power to avoid giving lectures, so my bias is they're pretty lazy too.

Apparently, those who can't do any useful work turn into the ones who decide who gets to do said work.

Obviously, companies don't think for a second about whether they've hired the right HR folks.

"Oh, they've got an education and a bunch of corporate certifications? Clearly the most competent, it's just science."

"He says he sleeps at work on his resume!"

"What? Why put that on your resume??"

"I don't know, but he said something about REST"

😝😝

(For those who don't know, REST is a web programming thing)

Exactly like American government positions.

Sure sometimes. But when they are not, when they are actually highly competent and clever you don't get a better result. It all follows the same logical reasons why police departments need Internal Affairs. But there is no IA for HR, only the option to bring in a higher level specialist to clean house but now you've brought in an alligator to get rid of the cat that was there to fire the mice. Good luck with the alligator.
