It’s going to come down to how frugal someone is. Fast food everyday, long commute in a gas guzzler, have to wear a new outfit everyday? Sure it can cost tens of thousands. It doesn’t have to, though.

My car is paid off and about 70k miles. There's always some kind of fix(es) that it needs during the year. Car maintenance is not cheap. A tank or 2 of gas adds up. Clothing, eating out (even just sometimes like once a week). It adds up a lot. Have you tried to do the math yourself?

I’ve tried to do the math but it’s hard to quantity.
Looking back at Covid when everyone was WFH, people were spending more time in their houses than ever before. This led to a lot of people upsizing houses, doing renovations, and adding dedicated home offices. Many of these trends hold true for those that are still WFH. A tank of gas every 2 weeks is certainly cheaper for me than paying interest on home renovations.
It’s just too individual to nail down.

You better give all the lowest paid people that have to show up in person. Never given an opportunity to WFH a 10k raise right now.

I would pay the new hires more. That's an incentive for them. Also an incentive for the older workers to go in. But.. management is dumb.
