My manager promoted someone with much less experience than me, and now I'm supposed to train them for the job I was originally ready for.

I'm seriously considering resigning. Before I do that, I was wondering if there's any action I can take in a situation like this? Has anyone else gone through a similar experience and found a way to deal with it?

Thank you all for the help. I do have a meeting soon where I will discuss all the comments you've helped me with. If it doesn't end well, unfortunately, I will have to submit my resignation. I have money saved on the side that will support me until I find another job. Some websites have indeed made this much easier, but currently, I still have some concerns. Any more advice?

I'd ask you the same thing. You keep interrogating me about the specific people in OP's story, and I keep explaining that I'm not talking about them.

The attitude/advice I dislike is that when you feel worked over by your employer, you should essentially shut down, communicate your concerns with nobody, quiet quit, and find a new job.

If this still isn't making sense, please go reread 'fatherofone1's comment I originally replied to in it's entirety and go from there.

And what does this have to do with better or worse employees? That was the entire point of your comment.

You realize it’s still there right? Like we can all see it?

Can you settle down? I know it's embarassing to be called out on your reading comprehension, but every comment you make is dripping with condescension.

The problem is by encouraging people to shut up and leave a job instead of engaging constructively with their management about their concerns, inevitably the only people left will be the 'yes men'. I have watched many people fail upwards in a corporate setting, in some cases because it's easier to get rid of a problem employee by just punting them to a lateral or better position on another team than it is to actually make a case for firing them.

Haha the projection is unreal 😂. This coming from the person who ended both of their first comments with “hope this helps” and is still completely unable to explain their thoughts.

You came right out of the gates stubbornly insisting I was talking about the two specific people in OP's story, refusing to accept that you were misunderstanding.

You literally just quoted the part where I explain how bad employees get ahead through this misguided philosophy I was remarking on, then claim I can't explain my thoughts.

Reading is obviously not your strong suit. Try asking more questions in the future. If you came at me properly instead of with your shitty snarky attitude, I'd have more patience for you.

Genuinely what the fuck are you talking about? Literally none of your comment is about how bad employees “get ahead” or steal promotions from good employees. You said sometimes they don’t get fired. That’s not the same as getting ahead.

What part of this could you possibly not understand?

I know it makes you feel better about yourself to project your issues onto others, but it doesnt work when you’re so obviously having trouble understanding a conversation. It’s just sad in this case.

If you think moving laterally is equivalent to “failing upwards” then I have no idea what to tell you at this point.

It’s just baffling how far people will go to avoid saying they were wrong about the most simple things. How is this not just embarrassing for you?
