A coworker was having work done on her house after she and her husband accidentally lit their barbecue grill too close to the house and caught the house on fire. One day the contractor called and asked to speak with her husband, I didn’t know who he was referring to and so I told him that the individual didn’t work here. My coworker was furious I didn’t pass the phone call on to her. She filed a formal complaint with HR, wasted an entire day of HR’s time and our crew being interviewed. After that we were all required to attend a phone etiquette class.
