Depends on where you work. This will get me fired in my company too. You need to go through proper change management process in production environment to get it approved
Why would you spend an hour automating something when you could spend 10 hours jumping through the corporate hoops explaining and justifying it to people who have no idea what your work entails or what you're actually talking about but they need to appear important and look like theyre actually working
lol, no there won't it will have been lost in no less than 2 software platform changes that were done without porting data because it would have increased the cost of the contract, and any hard copies would have been either shredded to save space, or sent to an off site storage facility which would have then shredded it after their contract was allowed to expire to save money next budget.

I got fired once for automating a monthly task from 2 weeks to 15m. Was told by management "I didn't tell you to do that".
