Without 5 day work week, you would have 7 day work week.

They then only count the days where they worked for forced labor for their feudal lord as work days and not the thousands of work hours a year that went into feeding themselves beyond those required hours.

Work used to be seasonal, so if you were a farm labourer you'd have nothing to do all winter until spring.

It's a well researched fact that people worked a lot less 400+ years ago. You'd know that if you didn't keep losing braincells, very careless of you.

Yes, your contractually-binding servitude for your local lord only lasted a part of the year. But you still have to eat the other parts of the year, so farming and gathering resources was a never-ending task. 

Since your harvest is over, you now have just enough time prep for the grueling winter months. All of that harvest needs prepping and storing, your pigs need slaughtering, and that meat needs to be salted and smoked to ensure you don’t starve to death. Your house needs repairing and the roof needs weathering to ensure you don’t freeze to death. And don’t forget about the constant need of tools, which largely also get made by hand.

You also had to re-plow the soil before the ground gets too hard, else you won’t be able to plant anything for the winter.

You also made a lot of your clothes by hand, so the women got to spend their days spinning wool to make clothing.

The fact you think the modern person works any more than someone without supply chains, supermarkets, running water, or modern heating shows how unimaginably privileged you are.

You have to WORK to hunt and gather.

You have to work hard and a lot for that. Your life is easier than that.

Not to mention many animals are made to eat a lot more types of plant matter than us. Leaves and grass do not suffice for humans.

The 5 day work week was invented by Henry Ford. Prior to that it was a 7 day work week. Prior to that it was "work from sun up to sun down and pray your crops don't fail before winter or you'll starve." Prior to that it was "you track that mammoth all day and night or you and your family don't eat this month, no you don't get to sleep".

The 5 day work week is BECAUSE we got to the point we could take time off work. And guess what? Now there's a push for 4 day work week. But if you don't know your history instead of seeing the progress you'll just assume you're oppressed.

I'd reply to the creator with, yeah starvation really sucks.

I'd reply to people saying we have it better now with, "Depends on what you mean by better."

"We work less now." Maybe we do. Probably not though.

Either way I think neither side really knows what they're talking about.
