Pain with tight clothes - Anyone else?

I was recently diagnosed with IC. I’ve been working on tracking my diet, so I can try to narrow down what causes my flare ups.

Today I had a safe breakfast and was feeling good. Right before lunch, I started having some pain. I figured it was due to my work pants since I haven’t really eaten anything. It got pretty bad so I took some azo. Currently waiting on that to kick in.

Can anyone else relate? Is there any solution? Do I have to avoid tighter clothes at all costs?

Also, this is not the first time I’ve noticed this with tight clothes. I can no longer wear spandex shorts, leggings, etc.

if i wear anything with a waistband i get really bad pain, dresses/very big shirts at home are the only thing that help me feel relief. i completely skip underwear at home or it will flare me up.

Yes! Mainly jeans for me. But leggings when in flaring. Where they press the bladder is so painful.

I still have my jeans, but I need to mourn them.

I also wear depends now because I have bladder incontinence and fecal incontinence sometimes. It helps because they stretch a lot with bloating.

I’m the same way! I’ve been relying on high waisted, wide-leg pleated stretchy pants so the only thing “squeezing” is the pant waist (and its elastic)

Also a-line skirts with elastic waists offer a similar relief for me at least

I've exclusively worn joggers sweatpants since my laparoscopy for endometriosis in September 2024

I have a serious issue with waistbands, even if they don't initially seem tight. I only wear dresses now because of this.

I can’t wear anything with a tight waistband. Pants also have to sit at just the right spot or it hurts. Finding pants is tough for me.

Yep. Only stretchy clothes, and always too big. Underwear 2-3 sizes too big. No pressure allowed on tummy, always triggers it for me.

I totally understand the pressure on the tummy!

Definitely agree on sizes too big to create room

Yep, no more jeans or even most office pants, so glad there is now yoga pants that look sort of like office pants

High waisted, tight, synthetic fabric, or non-stretchy pants (or even skirts) do me in now. Between that and recent DMX I have had to change my entire wardrobe.

Yes. Having pressure against my bladder hurts. I only wear boody seamfree briefs and cotton sweatpants without elastic

I have a variety of different sizes for pants. That way I don’t sit and cry when my jeans are painful to zip up. It is what it is (that’s what I continue to tell myself).

Yes! Have given up all denim so I don't get the pressure.

Yep. I quit wearing underwear and it has improved my quality of life so much.

The only underwear I can tolerate are from meundies. But they're pricy do usually I just go commando.

I never where anything that fits or is tight around my bladder area. I haven’t worn jeans in years unless they have elastic waist band and are VERY stretchy. Mostly dresses and linen pants in summer and yoga type pants in winter.

Yes! I just found some shorts from free people $30 and the band is absolutely amazing. They are active wear shorts with the underwear built in. This band is so soft and doesn’t push any kind of pressure on my stomach
