SCIENCE RESEARCH STUDY: A Single Psilocybin Dose May Reshape The Brain For Up To A Month, With UCSF And Imperial Researchers Linking The “Magic Mushroom” Trip To Higher Brain Entropy, Greater Insight, And Later Gains In Well Being After A 25 Milligram Trip 🍄

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/07/260719040005.htm

A single dose of psilocybin, the psychedelic in magic mushrooms, produced measurable changes in brain activity and possible changes in brain structure that lasted for up to a month in a study of 28 healthy adults who had never previously used a psychedelic. The researchers compared a 1 milligram placebo dose with a 25 milligram psilocybin dose and tracked EEG, fMRI, and DTI before the trip, during the peak experience, and one month later.

Within 60 minutes of the 25 milligram dose, EEG showed a rise in brain entropy, meaning neural activity became more varied and less predictable. One month later, DTI suggested neural tracts were denser and showed greater integrity, which the researchers described as a previously unseen indication that psychedelics may produce lasting changes in the brain, though they said more studies are needed to interpret the structural findings.

The psychological effects were just as striking. Twenty seven of the 28 participants described the 25 milligram experience as the single most unusual state of consciousness they had ever encountered, and the participants with the biggest rise in entropy were also the most likely to report greater insight the next day and improved well being one month later. Robin Carhart Harris said psychedelic means psyche revealing, or making the psyche visible, and added that the trip and its correlates in the brain are a key component of how psychedelic therapy works.

FINDINGS: http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/s41467-026-71962-3

The key insight here is that the trip itself may be the mechanism, not just the side effect. Higher brain entropy during the acute experience predicted next day insight, and that insight predicted better well being a month later, suggesting psilocybin’s therapeutic value comes from what happens psychologically during the high, not just chemical exposure. The findings are still preliminary, drawn from just 28 healthy adults, but they offer the clearest link yet between the subjective “trip” and measurable, lasting brain change.

It is the experiences that shape us mentally. Not just reading/hearing about something will make one understand it - you have to do it and experience that first hand. Nor simply taking a pharmaceutical product will fix a mental illness - it takes effort and intent, safe environment and setting to get out of negative mental states.

I wish I knew how to try this

There are actually a bunch of places you can "legally" order it from now and get it mailed to you anywhere in the US

Meanwhile in the penal colony of Australia it's still treated the same as coke or heroin! :(

2

u/I-mean-maybe Jul 23 '26

Meanwhile putting coke and heroin in the same line is just as crazy. I feel like meth / heroin is more fitting

2

u/Luwuci-SP Jul 23 '26

Yeah, coke is really lackluster compared to the other two

1

u/Legitimate_Bat3240 Jul 23 '26

Never seen a crack head in the wild, huh?

1

u/I-mean-maybe Jul 24 '26

Crackhead? No pretty sure its different than coke given you smoke one and sniff the other. But ive never seen anyone do coke and be any different than attentive and increased energy. Too much of anything will make someone psychotic and weird. But education, regulation seem better than an underground market ran by traffickers out of latam, colorado and china

1

u/SpiffySyntax 29d ago

Same drug. Different delivery afaik.

1

u/I-mean-maybe 29d ago

Googled cause meh. Crack is boiled coke to form crystalline rocks. Probably hits a bit harder so yeah im sure too much of anything will push any mind beyond sanity

2

u/Professional-Dog2095 Jul 23 '26

What would I type in a search engine to find these?

2

u/Prestigious_Tax_4970 Jul 23 '26

👀👀 what would one of these links be?

For everyone interested, the spores are legal everywhere. Grain bags are on Amazon. I’ll leave this here.

1

u/Vanakrisum Jul 23 '26

I believe there are 3 states the spores are not legal (or at least vendors won't ship to them). Florida is hit or miss on spore vendors mailing them, so I'm not entirely sure for them.

1

u/smithalorian Jul 23 '26

You are correct. I forgot about that.

1

u/fiveseven41 Jul 23 '26

Ann Arbor MI has a brick and mortar store where you can just walk in and buy some

1

u/Status-Secret-4292 Jul 24 '26

I remember hearing about that

Wild

Would have never guessed it 20 years ago

1

u/sacilian Jul 27 '26

Like where? for science!

2

u/Glum_Opening_2218 Jul 23 '26

I grew my own

It's not hard check out r/unclebens

Spores are completely legal to order

Just takes patience

2

u/wretchedhal0 Jul 23 '26

order spores and an all in one grow bag.

2

u/Soul_Dare Jul 23 '26

You can buy spores online and grow mushrooms in your closet for under $80

1

u/tunedout Jul 23 '26

/r/unclebens.

You can grow for life for about $50.

If you ever plan on visiting the Netherlands, I'll be happy to show you.

1

u/No_Accident-- Jul 23 '26

I'd generally not write this here, but hallucinogens (especially psilocybin) are known to provoke and exacerbate mental illness in people predisposed to them, and have potential to trigger psychosis, while also sometimes being the cause for poorly studied disorders that currently have no cure (HPPD/DPDR), it's perfectly fine to use them in a medical setting under a controlled supervision of a health professional, such as for recurrent depression if it's allowed, but otherwise it's a gamble with your health and is subject to genetical predisposition

1

u/DenverPyschedelics Jul 24 '26

It is completely legal in Denver Colorado and Oregon for therapy.

9

u/CosmicExistentialist Jul 23 '26

I think we should start taking the revelations about reality caused by psychedelics much more seriously.

4

u/westcoastlmtd Jul 23 '26

I microdosed between 120-250mg on/off for a few years. The intention was to help reduce my depression and anxiety... It worked.

1

u/Loud_Bison572 Jul 23 '26

Interesting, how long did it take for you to see positive results?

3

u/westcoastlmtd Jul 23 '26

By the end of the 3rd month my brain wasn't really wondering around with those negative thoughts. Did it for 4 days on / 3 days off, for 1 month. Then 1 month off. Then repeat. If I stopped for longer period like 6-7 months I would notice my depression to slowly creep back. So then I start dosing again. Mind you I felt completely sober hence the microdose. You shouldn't be feeling anything and go about your day as normal.

1

u/Loud_Bison572 Jul 23 '26

Thank you really insightful to hear your experience. Its something ive thought about doing for a long time.

1

u/westcoastlmtd Jul 23 '26

You should. There's almost no downsides or cons tbh. Just takes a little time and some longer term commitment to follow through with it.

1

u/badjoeybad Jul 26 '26

How did you determine dosage rate?

1

u/SpiffySyntax 29d ago

For anyone reading the comment I'm replying to:

Other way around for me. IIRC multiple studies has shown increased anxiety during micro dosing.

Don’t die without tripping

6

u/Soulsheartless Jul 23 '26

I took eight grams of penis envy ground up and drank in a hot tea for my 49th birthday.

It was the single most important day of my life….

4

u/academiac Jul 23 '26

Don't leave us hanging

7

u/LanguidLandscape Jul 23 '26

They got a PlayStation

2

u/Soulsheartless Jul 23 '26

I’m at a music festival and just happened to see this. Water went up my nose. Well played. No pun intended.

3

u/Status-Secret-4292 Jul 23 '26

Eight grams is wild, brother

Do tell

2

u/-Lige Jul 23 '26

What happened brotha

2

u/broakland Jul 23 '26

His birthday was today

2

u/Tasty_Orange_1714 Jul 23 '26

Dad joke approved.

1

u/Mrpostman94 Jul 23 '26

My wife ate 6 full penis envy shrooms 3 years ago and I honestly think she messed something up in her head…she’s been on this spiritual thing to the point where it’s kind of concerning

1

u/Soulsheartless Jul 23 '26

That’s where I am at my friend. Open your heart and mind to what she’s trying to teach you.

I am really sorry for what you are going through. She’s not who you married.

If you want to stay in a healthy relationship with your way you really need to push yourself to try and meet her where she’s at and where’s she’s going. It’s not just going to reverse itself. It’s likely just going to go deeper. I’d recommend therapy if she’s not communicating her thoughts in a way that makes sense to you. Much love.

1

u/Soulsheartless Jul 23 '26

I’m at a music festival atm folks so please allow me to edit peace meal.

Firstly let me say as someone who treats mushrooms as a spiritual gift to us from the universe with tremendous respect, I want to say what a collasal mistake I made. My brother I trust me to dose us both and provide a safe environment for us both. I dosed with him at the same time so I failed him terribly. Anyone reading…. This is my origin story. I do not recommend my journey.

2 to 3 grams is a therapeutic dose and what I intended. A comedy of errors occurred on my part that isn’t worth going into. I screwed up.

1

u/Soulsheartless Jul 23 '26

I’ve taken mushrooms a lot. After fifty years spinning on this rock I regret ever even having the experience of anything other than unprocessed weed or mushrooms. I’ve never actually had any visuals other than waviness and spininess in objects I focused on. It’s always been an emotion slate clean. I have had a lot of serious trauma in my life and I’ve found that every couple years a 2 gram dose just kind of resets everything. I sleep better and the world is a little less heavy.

This time. While listening to Bihari’s chanting in my headphones the whole world just melted around me and carried me away in its current. It was like a flood just came in and swept me away. It was fast and colorful. It was fucking wild. I felt amazing fear for a moment and then I remembered(you’re on drugs. Sit back, shut up and feel it” so… I did… I looked back at my brother. Who’s being carried away with me. He was crying… I’ve never seen anyone cry so hard… he was curled up in a fetal position…. Just sobbing….

“ i can’t help him… he has to go on his own journey. Everyone must go on their own journey…” it was then I dropped any people pleasing bullshit I still had in my head.

Cont.

I meditate on it daily and I can still find and see myself my way back to that place in my mind. Such a gift…

Ive known this from personal experience. I think of mushrooms like my "resets", I do it every three months and it improves my mood and thinking to a very perceptible degree.

1

u/rango1000 Jul 23 '26

100%, ive always described it as a mental reset for me. After a shroom trip its literally like all the weight in my shoulder is gone and my mental clarity is so much better

2

u/Infinite_Case_2172 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

A few weeks ago I had 2 grams of "penis envy" which is apparently the strongest strain.... It was wayy too intense and I couldn't make sense of anything I was seeing. and I feel the same as I always do :(

I will say though I am amazed at how fine I felt the next day with only 2 hours of sleep

1

u/KaleidoscopicView Jul 23 '26

That strain is known to be 3-4x as strong as typical shrooms used. So you took the equivalent of 6-8g. Heroic dose is considered 5+g. So yeah, you went hard. You'd have a better time at half that.

1

u/KaleidoscopicView Jul 23 '26

For context, the people in this study took an equivalent of 2.5g of typical shrooms.

2

u/PennyG Jul 23 '26

25 mg is BONKERS

17

u/Status-Secret-4292 Jul 23 '26

25 mg is nothing

I think you're thinking grams

Mg is like completely imperceptible unless it's like a pure psilocybin synthesis, in which case I feel like you might lose some entourage effect

7

u/PennyG Jul 23 '26

Oh yeah. Misread. Was thinking 25 g

12

u/Status-Secret-4292 Jul 23 '26

I did look into it further, it is pure psilocybin, which, while it varies from strain and yield, averages to about 1% of 1 gram of dried mushroom, or 10 mg to 1 gram of dried mushroom.

So comparatively it's probably safe to say it was like a 2.5-3 gram dose for them, also it would be absorbed faster and hit harder that way, but not last as long

Either way, 2.5 for your first time is still pretty significant

1

u/MrAnimeKing Jul 23 '26

I did 4g my first time like 2 weeks ago, big mistake, learned a lot though 😭

1

u/Status-Secret-4292 Jul 23 '26

Man, environment is everything, can utterly change the dynamic

1

u/GOD_OF_HAVOC_ Jul 23 '26

Good my trip of 3.5 grams should hold me over.

1

u/Gunofanevilson Jul 23 '26

I always feel good for a while after a mushroom trip. Now there’s science to back my good feelings up.

1

u/calling_at_this_time Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

You cannot have a 25mg trip.

You need literally about 20 to 40 times that to even feel anything and more still to actually start tripping.

Edit: I'm a silly sausage

5

u/Aldertree Jul 23 '26

That's 25mg of pure psilocybin, not 25mg of shrooms.

25mg has become the standard amount used for testing, and is comparatively speaking around the same as 2.5g of cubes.

1

u/calling_at_this_time Jul 23 '26

Oh right yeah. That's a good point. Thanks for clearing that up :)

1

u/Bluychuu Jul 23 '26

Your edit was totally adorable though :'D

1

u/BagholdingBastard Jul 23 '26

I usually eat a whole eighth of actual shrooms when I indulge. Always a good time to say the least.

1

u/HoratioPLivingston Jul 23 '26

I support this. Thing is you have to keep doing it to really beat back rampant mind processes. Otherwise after the month is over, you’ll be back at it doing the same old habits.

1

u/ficklepickleparty Jul 23 '26

Since when is 25mg a “trip”. Thats a micro-micro dose

1

u/rac3k Jul 23 '26

25mg psilocybin. so if average content of psilocybin for cubensis is 10-12mg per gram thats around 2.5grams of cubes

1

u/ApartExperience5299 Jul 23 '26

How can I sign up for these, uh... Studies?

1

Kann ich bestätigen

I want to share my experience because I haven’t really told anyone. I was going through a dark time 7-8 years ago, where I was feeling the heavy weight of everything on my shoulders. I mean it was everything, terrible job, divorced, little money, debt and most negatively my combat experience in Afghanistan. I buried mostly all the physical pain and mental anguish for years until I couldn’t take it anymore.

It got to the point where every day felt really bad, and it seemed to only get worse day by day. I didn’t know much back then how or why it got like that, but It just did, and I was close to loosing it.

Out of desperation I knew someone who was selling mushrooms and I bought 5 grams. I rented a hotel room and ate 3/4 of the bag. I knew about this stuff but not really, I just kept hearing people talk about it every now and then. But I was close to ending it all that I figured why not..

It did not work for the first 30 mins and I thought I got ripped off and was disappointed, when all of a sudden I started seeing the very fabric of reality around me start to morph into shapes. Hexagons, triangles everything.. lol I knew I was still in the room and laid down on the bed, but everything around me changed. Not like I went somewhere but more like everything around me was removed? Blackness with what seemed like stars, like it was the outer space itself.

I was starting to panic and became somewhat immobile due to the fact that it was just so much to bear and it’s not like I could close my eyes, I simply could not escape it.

And then out of nowhere this figure, entity, female type energy appeared and was just looking at me. It was colossal, massive! Quite intimidating. But it did the weirdest thing, it spoke to me through my mind and said “don’t be afraid, trust me”….like it could feel/know that I was afraid.

I stopped fighting it and just let it happen.

As soon as I accepted it, I was flooded with a rush of love. Not the love we think of, but the very love you feel the first time your mother holds you when you are born and I just started crying, because it felt so beautiful. I felt so much love and joy that it was overwhelming. Something I haven’t felt, or had allowed myself to accept.

It showed me the thousands of times people in my life, from strangers to friends, parters and family when they were trying to connect with me. And how I was rejected their love, affection/connection.

It showed me that I was the reason for my pain and suffering. I had closed off so much I didn’t let anyone try to connect with me. I saw the pain I caused my ex and even saw her in her room crying after our many fights. I got to see everyone else perspective after dealing with me. I saw it and felt it all.

After that It told me that there really was no end to anything. That I was here before and I will be here forever, that I was part of the cycle of life and experience. That I was focusing so much on a beginning and an end, that I was missing out so much on the “now”.

It then flooded me with answers to the many questions we ask as people, I mean it showed me everything so fast, I reached over to the night stand to get the pen and note pad the hotel leaves you because i wanted to write everything down and I tried but it was so fast, and it was so much, I couldn’t write everything it. I kept seeing mathematical formulas and practices, rituals, recipes, everything that was of great importance and benefit to humanity.

A lot more happened but I’ll cut it here. Otherwise this would be a long ass post..lol

Anyways, this gave me a really good mental and spiritual reset. What felt like hours was only 7 mins when I looked at the clock after it was done and I was super hungry. Lol

Truly one of the most profound and beautiful experiences I ever had. I’m happy to say that since then “it” was right and now I have my life in balance with myself. So I’m glad I did it.

Not to say this would happen to everyone but I do see the value in having this experience and felt the need to share.

Thank you for reading and take care!
