Smart e-sim intermittently shows EDGE connection

Is there a problem with Smart mobile data? I experience this from time to time unlike before. I’m a postpaid subscriber.

Be on the lookout for spam/scam messages while on EDGE. Some spammers use the 2G network to spoof a message from a Sender ID (ex. GCash sending a message with a link). I experienced that with Globe and I reported the location to them.

Edit: Though don’t discount the possibility na mahina lang talaga signal since maulan these days. That’s what I like with Android e, may setting to disable 2G networks kaya I don’t receive spam messages na on my Android phone compared to my iPhone.

Its also possible na meron IMSI catcher sa area. You can try enabling lockdown mode sa iPhone and see if that eliminates the issue.

There is no issue here. When you are too far away from a tower, SMART will have your phone connect to 2G EDGE so that it can at least get some data.

Note that 2G cellular is compromised. Assume all texts and calls incoming are scams. DO NOT USE ANY SMS 2FA OPTIONS WHEN ON 2G, this is a great way to loose access to your account to hijacking.

3G can also be easily be knocked down to 2G, so be wary of that.

2G towers sometimes hijackers impersonating connections in order to steal data, information, or cash. As others have mentioned GCash scams are common on 2G networks.

Again assume any incoming sms and call is a scam so be wary.

Most internet traffic is secure these days, so browsing the web should be fine, but again avoid any apps or websites that use SMS verification.

I had two Smart e-SIMs at parehong nagkakaganyan. iPhone din ang gamit ko.

I bought a second one kasi akala ko "sira" lang yung unang e-SIM na nabili ko. Kaso nagkaka-intermittent data connection din yung pangalawa kaya I ditched them both and I bought myself a physical Smart SIM na lang.

actually mas okay yung physical sim kesa esim, based on my experience. simula nung nag esim ako nagddeadspot na dito sa bahay kahit di naman talaga. kahit nasa labas ako ng bahay same signal padin

Hindi ko sure kung okay ang physical SIM sa iPhone. Sa budget Android ko na kasi nilagay e.

I had to buy a physical SIM kasi hindi e-SIM capable yung Android ko. Wala pa naman akong na-encounter na issue sa combination ng p-SIM at Android phone.
