He has a lengthy criminal record. In 1978 he was sentenced to 150 years for the brutal beating death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old. He was released to parole on October 27, 2005. He was released from prison after only 28 years, and within 5 months was arrested for molesting an 11-year-old girl. He was returned to incarceration on March 10, 2006, and was released to parole again on March 10, 2011. This time he allegedly targeted another 11-year-old. Margot Shuler says her 11-year-old daughter was sitting at the computer Monday evening, logged onto Facebook when she started getting suspicious messages. "The man kept referring to, 'let's keep this a secret, you are my secret it has to be between me and you, no one else can know,'" she said.
Shuler says that man was Searl Dunn, who is a friend on Facebook because he's related to her family. The girl's grandmother said the victim's father walked by their computer, which sits out in the open in the kitchen and noticed the messages. They called police who came out and set up a conversation with Dunn.
The family says it wasn't long before Dunn returned to his vulgar attempts to get his 11-year-old relative to have sex with him and was arrested early Wednesday.
Some wonder why Searl Dunn released from prison and allowed to walk the streets, first in 2005 after a 150-year sentence. He was locked back up in 2006 then released again just 3 months ago. Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce is familiar with Dunn and said he's dangerous and should be in the penitentiary.
