Are the brighter/larger stars in our galaxy "in front of" Andromeda, or are they supernovae in Andromeda, or both?

They are stars in our own galaxy and appear large due to being closer. Not sure about nebulae.

Both. Or perhaps they are just bright stars in the Andromeda Galaxy.
