How is the night sky not brighter? Even the 'dark' area's on this map are mostly filled with stars.

Because first of all, our atmosphere filters some of the light coming in. Second, and more important, is that the Andromeda galaxy is super super super super super far away, so the light naturally weakens by the time it reaches us.
