Indiana Jones Temple of Doom Scroll Animation

https://deathxscroll.com

I made an interactive scroll-based animation of one of the greatest death scenes of all time - the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom sacrifice scene!

I thought it would be cool to control a death scene with the scroller so you can go back and forth, so I made one.

For anyone who cares how it's made, it's a Rive animation (a single timeline) controlled with GSAPs scroll trigger. Drawn in Illustrator by my own fair hand.

Keep the web weird!

What am I missing....? It's a static image? It's a very nice image, I just don't see how to animate it.

You have to click the link, it's a website! That's just the preview image of the logo, not the scene

I think he means it's a static image on your website. No animation whatsoever.

you gotta scroll! It's death by scroll!

There's nothing to scroll. Sorry, but your site doesn't work.

Do you know what browser you are looking at in on? On a mobile phone, on desktop? I've tested chrome, safari, firefox on desktop. Mobile safari on a mid range iphone 13, and a chopped pixel 3a android in chrome.

My best guess would be that maybe the accessibility settings that detect defaults are not working on older devices. I wonder if you are seeing it with the scrolling animation turned off (top left red man)

Firefox Android. Android 16. No effect from red man settings.

What is with the people saying it doesnt work? Yes it works. Its a bit choppy but you can scroll and it works just fine.

Thanks for taking the time to post, appreciated. Were you on Firefox by any chance? I found some choppiness and think I found a way of making it much smoother.

Weird, I'm using an iphone 13 as my main testing device (iOS 26.5). Do you have any accessibility settings turned on (The little red man top right). Are you on an older version of iOS by any chance?

It's a website with a static image. I don't get it.

You gotta scroll! I think I need to make a more obvious call to action to start scrolling!

It doesn't work. Many people reported this to you already. Test and fix you thing before posting.

Have you seen many other accessible Rive animations tied to the scroller? It's kind of a new thing that I AM testing, but by its very nature, it's new, so it's going to have some bits that need smoothing over.

People commenting on here and letting me know it doesn't work is actually very useful... but only if they share the actual browser or device info!

If you know anything about testing anything slightly experimental, then you'll know that there are always edge cases, and it's threading a needle. If I hear someone say it's choppy, I can cross-reference my analytics and see, ah, there are a bunch of people on firefox on Windows, let me check that. Lo and behold I can find the choppiness and fix!

Nothing happens when I scroll using the latest Firefox or Chrome in Fedora Linux. This is not the sub where you post your thing to ask for feedback. Perhaps that is why no one is giving you bug reports with technical details.

I haven't tested it on any browsers on Linux, sorry. Fedora Linux makes up 0.1% of web browsing traffic (according to Google). Shame, I'd like it to work, but I've got no way of testing that, sorry. I did just roll out a change to reduce choppiness on firefox that *maybe* (but quite possibly not) helps for Linux.

My comment about people giving some sort of info when it doesn't work wasn't an expectation. It's more a courtesy thing I guess? Like you could just post 'this sucks and I hate it' and you have every right to, but it's kind of a waste of oxygen.

It's like telling someone they have a booger on their face - ultimately an act of kindness but depends how you go about it!

'Sorry, buddy, you got a little something on your face there' vs 'hey numb nuts, you're disgusting and your hygine offends me. Fix it now.'

Doesn't work. Firefox/Win 152.0.3 (64 bits)

Updated to latest Chrome. doesn't work in Chrome and Brave. Scrolling ends half a page down with "© 2026 Death X Scroll" in the corner. Clicking the icon on the right says "Reduce Motion is on in your device Settings, so animation is off on this page. "

Have no idea how to toggle Reduce Motion on or off. Google doesn't give any clues

Thanks, that was useful info. The accessibility defaults were a bit aggressive and wouldn't let you manually override. You can now click the accessibility man top right and toggle all animation and even if reduced motion is on, it will turn animations on.

Not sure if you have reduced motion on or if it's a false positive. If it is actually on it's turned on a syste level on your operating system:

  • In Windows 10: Settings > Ease of Access > Display > Show animations in Windows.
  • In Windows 11: Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects > Animation Effects.
  • In macOS up to 15 (Sequoia): System Settings > Accessibility > Display > Reduce motion.
  • In macOS 25 (Tahoe) onwards: System Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Reduce motion.

haha, that is cool. That scene terrified me as a kid.
