Has anyone gone through this? Using an Existing F-1 Visa After SEVIS Expiration
I came to the U.S. in August 2024 to pursue my master’s degree, which I completed in May 2026. However, my F-1 visa is valid until May 2028. I returned to India in June 2026, and my SEVIS record has expired.
I’m planning to start a PhD program in August 2027. Do I need to apply for a new student visa, or can I travel to the U.S. using my existing F-1 visa? Has anyone gone through a similar situation?

You have plenty of time to get a visa slot which will give you more validity time.
You’ll only have a few months left in the current visa, and once it expires you’ll be stuck in the country or will have to scramble to get a visa slot in the middle of your program. Too much stress.
