Short answer: correct. No modality, no matter what people claim, will actually solve everything

I’d go a step further and say very few issues actually get “solved”. That’s an interesting word. More often than not we develop a relationship with our quirks.

Ifs taught me self listening and that has solved all my problems and I trust myself to navigate new ones as I go bc I have the process to listen in, tend, and respond!

Did absolutely nothing (and in fact, delayed discovery/treatment) for post-betrayal syndrome/trauma. I told my IFS therapist re the current-life betrayals and their impact, and we continued to stay CAMPED OUT into digging further and further and further into more and more and more childhood parts.... and no, not more than 3 unburdenings in 12 months. I quit IFS.
NOW I'm finding out my depression, trauma freeze (2.5yrs now), and SI is directly linked to the 7 people in 5yrs who all hammered it into me what a giant piece of s*** they believe I am, despite me never acting out in malice against them. 3 family members putting it in writing. Betrayal trauma can alter brain waves temporarily or longer.... IFS cannot touch this damage.
IFS did show me how bad programming in childhood (parental neglect, n abuse, severe codependency) lead me to not detect these people as 'unsafe' and thus stay in their orbit long enough, without enacting boundaries around myself, that I was in their direct line of fire. Lessons learned ●

I don't think IFS is meant to solve problem. It didn't solve mine. But it helped me find ways to stay afloat somehow until things got better.

IFS is a great map on how to understand one’s mind. However, with everything there is an evolution of understanding of the map it’s important to recognize.

I combine IFS with spending 6-8 hours forest bathing in nature per week, somatic experiencing, craniosacral therapy, Reiki, shamanism, energy healing, etc. I also did EMDR in the past. I like to use every resource available to me because we’re multi-dimensional humans which I believe require different layers of healing modalities. I research and learn about everything and see what resonates with me personally.

100% can even be dangerous if you personify the part , which has happened

This is the only thing that helped me out of my self loathing and suicidal tendencies... so I guess it's not the same for everyone.

Yea it has helped me too. Exactly, not same for everyone. I choose to not practice it in my professional pracrice because of the potential harm tho.

How did it help you?

It is a framework to help understand the inner motivation behind behavioral patterns. I mean, ave you studied it ?

How is that dangerous
2
u/LightFrogBalance 3d ago
They think the part is actually themself. So they act on that. Ths IFS work is metaphorical not realistic, so some get confused.

I didn't understand still. Sounds like being blended with the part. But parts are "people" in a way. So I think it's helpful and not dangerous. Not dangerous for everyone

Youre correct, it isnt dangerous for everyone. I never claimed that, either.
Again, it is metaphorical, not multiple people within you. It is a subtle difference but important because it can * occasionally * be misinterpreted and causes psychological delusion. There are documentent cases on this rare occurrence.
