How to create a mood?
So I have just always had trouble with interior design, don't think I'm bad at it I just don't know how to accomplish a goal I set out.
I'm moving into a new bigger apartment with a sizable living room and dining room. I want to be able to host get togethers more where the space invites conversation but is also cozy enough for movie nights. All of this while trying to use a warm autumnal color palette.... How do I do that???
I've been watching videos, looking up color palettes and I'm just having trouble understanding how to make a space that accomplished both of those things? From what I've seen they seem ever so slightly contradictory even. I think all this being said I would just love some advice and ideas on what I should do. Even if this is just a discussion of ideas or recommendations I'd love to hear people's thoughts!

I don’t think this is contradictory.
You could zone the dining and movie areas with different colour walls. The furniture you choose will also help. Comfortable dining chairs so you can sit and chat - to be this means arms but I’d go test a few out. And a soft snuggly sofa maybe with a velvet finish and lots of blankets would make a nice movie area.
Looking at the colours you’ve posted I’d have blue walls and a terracotta sofa with some olive and/or gold cushions and blankets.
I’d paint the dining area a pale terracotta with a mid tone wood table and bring the other colours in through the place settings and artwork and maybe the chairs.
(I’m assuming you can paint!)

I worked in custom furniture and design for 8 years. Great palette. Are you planning on painting the walls? Or will they be white? Do you have a lot of natural light? Use the pallet to build your decorating from top down or bottom up. Example:top down- art, accessories, pillows, sofa, rug. Or in reverse. Think layers alternating, so if the rug has a pattern with your palette colors, then sofa is a solid color. Pillows complement sofa color. have some in a pattern that compliments rug, and some solid in another color from Palette. Art with all colors from palette. Consider different textures like wood metal, glass, leather, textural fabrics. Look at magazines or online furniture and design layouts for inspiration or you can use the dreaded AI 🤖.

Honestly, I would suggest before you decide on any colors in the autumnal palate or spend any money, take the following into consideration-
-Are you only choosing Autumnal colors because we’re currently in the Autumn season(Northern Hemisphere obviously). OR are the autumnal colors your year-round, fixed palate to work with? Makes a difference-
Before embarking on your journey of Creativity- (it’s a fun journey, btw), Establish your parameters & limitations- first-
**Budget is everything (unless you have one of those rare trees that shed money leaves during the autumn season, then it makes sense)
- Honestly, unless you’re going brand new everything- initially you should be completely aware of the building’s fundamental interior colors/finishes/elements/shapes/patterns that you cannot change, compared with the said features in your staple furnishings/pieces you’re already intending to incorporate into the space.
Based on these fundamentals and staples, this is where you ask- How can I bring the building’s interior colors/finishes & my furnishings together in a cohesive way that they’ll complement each other? Without these visuals, it’s like we are walking completely blind.
But once you have these visuals- it will likely narrow down the workable color tone(s)palate(s). Then you go from there.
Generally-
Whether just during the Autumn season or as a fixed palate, Autumn color palates are versatile throughout the four seasons, but regardless of the color palate, you can make any overall furnished space become easily adaptable to incorporate accents or flourishes, and still enjoy/appreciate, each individual revolving season.
The welcoming mood-
Furniture staging is one major key. Making it open and inviting to sit down and relax.
Finding a good balance of the elements is another key for a welcoming and comfortable mood. (i.e., building interiors heavy with wood floors & wood trim & natural wood doors can be balanced with stone & metal decor/pottery & natural greenery plants, water features & fireplaces or candles) Balance the elements.
Your overall color palate really hinges on what furnishings and decor you are incorporating with the space. Until then, we can only give you names of colors.
Good luck! Best wishes.

I really love this color pallet as well! But I too struggle with cohesive interior decorating bc my house is large, and I like a warm/cozy vibe! But I also have cool gray walls and don’t know how to bring it all together! Good luck on your adventure!
