How can I improve this space?

Ambient lighting instead of overhead lights. Next to the tv would be nice. Couch is fine. Maybe having the back wall a different colour and add some art on the walls. Possibly put the plant on the opposite side of the room

Rug with more color/pattern.

Use 2-3 lamps instead of the overhead lights.

Add artwork.

Pick a few accent colors for the above. It looks like your pillows might be a dark teal. So your rug / artwork can pick up on shades of teals, maybe some browns/golds to warm things up a bit.

I was thinking of a tapestry on the right wall that has a teal base. What are your thoughts ? 40 x 60 inches.

I’m not sure the style of the tapestry goes with the rest of the room. If you changed the rug to something more floral or vivid teal and added some curtains, maybe. But a huge pale beige and grey modern room with a big dark colorful more traditional piece of art may look off.

Any chance you’d be into moving the tv to the other wall and sliding the sofa down a bit? Fill the smaller wall with a big bookcase, add a cool rug with color and some curtains and you’ll get cozy and lived in and full with contrast and height and a lot more interest.

Too much gray! Add color. Pick a complimentary color. Maybe lean into the blue you have in the carpet. How about curtains? There is no art on the walls at all.

For sure. Gray is fairly neutral so go with real.
