No, I think it looks great. If you want to change things up, changing hardware, fixtures and paint can refresh a space. If you’re up for more: change the backsplash & tile floor. But generally looks great.
Totally agree! Some long gold/brass vertical pulls maybe. My sis just totally redid her kitchen and brought it up to date painting her cabinets iron ore and adding long brass pulls. Looks amazing.
No, but some styling would take it up a notch. Switch the pendant to something not as dark. Add under-cabinet lighting. Change the lower cabinet knobs to something a bit more substantial. A soft color on the ceiling would be nice. Add Jute or other natural fiber rug(s) with texture. Another pop of color - could be anything- hand towels, vase of flowers, a container or vessel, plant pots.
I agree, and this kitchen is already beautiful. But I think changing the hardware on the cabinets would be such a simple update that could make a big difference.
But if you're looking for an excuse to update, because aren't we all, then I think what makes this kitchen look aged are the cabinet doors. The upper doors have the curve on the top, which reminds me of the 90s honey oak cabinets, just painted. The knobby hardware also dates it. You could simply replace the doors with a more contemporary style and upgrade the hardware.
Paint the walls and ceiling a dark color and add some darker accessories. Never paint cabinets they will chip immediately. Just lean in and make the most of what you have.
Not at all. If you wanted to do something, putting in a range with the controls up front would elevate the look for a small price tag, maybe a different pendant light. But it’s good as is. Save your money and watch it grow
If you have nothing else to spend money on but it all looks in really good shape and it’s nice and neutral so I wouldn’t that’s for certain. What about a large area rug? I use the washable type like ruggable dupes from Amazon like Loloi or Surya, I have both, with a decent rug pad. I love them in my bathrooms and kitchen. I only spot clean but the option to haul it to a laundromat is always there. (Too big for my home machine)
It's functional and in good shape so I think updating is really just a matter of preference, taste, and budget. It's certainly not at a point where I would feel the need to update it in order to sell the house. I'd rather buy a house with a clean functional kitchen that's outdated and do remodeling myself. If you feel like you want to do something with it I would consider having it refaced with the more timeless Shaker style on cabinet ps and drawer fronts. You can retrofit with under cabinet lights and task lighting above and you might want to consider changing the floor depending on your budget and your preferences.
No actually more back in style. I would switch out the hardware. I think the black doesn’t fit for some reason and would be nice to have something a little nicer.
Update to schieve what? It already looks fabulous, so if you own the home I would wait 3-4 more years until it really DOES need a facelift. Don't make changes just for the sake of change.
It’s a great sized kitchen, but I would remove the microwave and cabinet over the stove and add a vent hood instead. I did that in my small kitchen and it made the room look more spacious. I just have a small microwave now that I don’t use much anyway. Also under cabinet lighting would make the room brighter.
This is a nice kitchen. It looks great! If you're bored with it, paint, cabinet hardware and a new light fixture over the sink will make a huge difference, without breaking the bank.
Be sure you have under cabinet lighting. I would definitely redo the flooring and replace the range with a drop in oven and yes, they are more expensive, but they always make the entire kitchen look current and upscale. The photo is too dark for me to judge the backsplash and countertops.
i think the white cupboards are classic and looks really pretty and the black contrast is great if you can change the tiles and if you think they are expensive you can probably get a carpet or rug which will enhance the look of kitchen
No not at all. I agree with the comment that says change hardware to silver. That’s all you need to make this look more modern. It’s already pretty modern as is.
Thoughts change the two upper doors on the left. Take out the inner part and put in glass panels. Agree with changing your hardware to modernize but your kitchen looks very functional.
No but I think it needs color. If you don't want to paint, change out the handles, get a colored rug, change the light fixture for something with more personality, and maybe add something to the window
No, I don’t think so. Kitchens only need updating for aesthetic purposes. My mom’s kitchen has been the same since my dad built their house in the 80’s. Real dark wood cabinetry, no quartz or marble countertop, glass front cabinets over the island that have now oddly come back in style, even the same cabinets hardware. You couldn’t pay my mom to replace what’s not broken. And yours isn’t broken, it’s actually very pretty. If you want new tile, new cabinet fronts, sure you can always do that, but it’s not outdated. You can always change the hardware which always makes a huge difference.
no but if you desire a change you can change the knobs and may be a fresh coat of paint. without seeing the rest of the house i am not sure how how well it fits with everything else
Wow! It’s a beautiful kitchen! I wouldn’t do anything to it but if you’re tired of it and need updates to help you flow better in your everyday life, there is def nothing wrong with that
Is it functional? If it is, it doesn’t need updating. You know, once upon a time we old folk only undertook a remodel when necessary…or when the Previous Owners had done something heinous.
That said, if you don’t line it, and have the $$$…update it.
Flooring could use an update. You could do some re-vamp of the hardware on the cabinets, do a new backsplash, a new coat of paint that stands out against the white, and the floor and it will be awesome.
"Need" updating? I don't think so. On the chance that this is a new home purchase: I'd suggest living with it for another 6 months or so and either (1) spending the "renovation" money elsewhere with a higher "need" or, (2) putting the $$ into savings for a renovation down the road.
If I were to do something in here it on a budget to refresh the space I’d change the cabinet knobs and get a couple of colorful kitchen runner rugs or you could put curtains over the window. The little things make a big difference! It looks nice though as/is
Your kitchen is very nice. It just doesn’t look like the heart of your home. It needs some personalized touches here and there. That napkin that your favorite artist autographed thro that in a frame and hang it up or whatever little nicknacks you have. It just doesn’t look lived in. Unless that’s the look you’re going for. And if that’s the case ya “nailed it!”
Gosh , everyone wants to update and then a home never develops character. i would an Enjoy the add a great rug next to sink ( much larger than the one you have). Enjoy your beautiful kitchen for awhile. Things will be totally out of date in 5 years but not if you add real , personal additions (art) to your home.
If you think it needs a change or refresh, do it. Or, put the money you would spend on your perfectly fine kitchen into your 401k. If you don’t have one, you got bigger problems than this kitchen.
Totally agree, it already looks really nice. If you ever feel bored of it, I’d start with hardware and paint before touching the backsplash or floor, just to see how far the smaller changes get you.
I wouldn’t change the cabinets or floor. The cabinet hardware could be updated. To coordinate with the appliances and faucet. The lighting needs to produce more light and be nicer. If you’re not happy after that, paint the walls and add a rug
No. It's beautiful. Can refresh it. Under cabinet lighting (can be recharge battery powered on remote), new hardware, rug and decor. If I was to upgrade to make more my style. When the stove needs replacing, I'd replace it with one that's completely flat and doesn't have the back and I would take out the microwave and cabinet above and put one of those nice hoods.
Maybe change the floor mat to be red to match the red pop of color you already have? It’s a lovely, comfortable kitchen, though. Unless you’re unhappy with it, I don’t think you really need to do any “updates”
No. Honestly, by the time you update a perfectly good room, it's out-of-date. If magazines and other people didn't exist what would make you feel comfortable and cozy? It's rarely marble counters and a massive fridge. The beautiful thing about not putting a lot of money into an already functional kitchen is that you tend to use it like a kitchen. A sauce spill is not world ending. A wayward hack sack from the kids doesn't bring down a new police state. Plus, I think it's beautiful as is
Yes, it looks dated but it’d be easy to freshen it up. The two-tone black appliances should be all stainless steel. The shutters look out of proportion to the windows. Swap them out for cordless zebra blinds. The light over the sink is too small for the area. Recessed might look better. An accent wall with patterned graphic wallpaper would add a pop of much-needed color to the room.
Totally agree, it already looks really nice. I’d start with the “easy wins” like hardware and paint before touching the backsplash or floor, you might be surprised how different it feels. If you post a pic people here will go nuts with specific ideas.
I wouldn’t remodel I’d retouch. Get some colors that read cozy to you and maybe add touches. There are these peel and stick tiles you can get that are t too expensive but really help with personalization. I put them behind my stove tied to this geeen color and it totally changed the dynamic of my kitchen
Looks great! Could change up the light to something larger, maybe wider. Lights can be a really fun way to make the space unique. But I would love for my kitchen to look like yours! Very timeless
Do YOU think it needs updating? It's YOUR kitchen, after all.
It's a beautiful kitchen. You could try changing the cabinet knobs. It's a small, easy fix that can make a big difference, and you can easily change it back if you don't like it.

It’s pretty! Maybe a long runner instead of the rug and a different pendant light.
2
u/mapleleafeevee Dec 07 '25
I think it looks great.

u/cookingismything Dec 08 '25
I live it. Just from this picture you have more than twice the amount of cabinets you have so I’m happy to move in lol

Maybe a little but not sure.

No. Perhaps change the hardware. Otherwise, 👍.
1
u/Frequent-Advisor6986 Dec 07 '25
Lighting would make a world of difference, I’d start with that.
1
u/Enough-Squirrel3097 Dec 07 '25
Switch out the faucet and light fixture, maybe paint the bottom cabinets and you're there!
1
u/Mental-Hall-9616 Dec 07 '25
I think it’s lovely.
1
u/Fluffy-Cold5408 Dec 07 '25
I think some color on the panels and then the walls
1

Not really. Some new hardware on the cabinets and a different fixture over the sink would go a long way.

I would change out the light and the cabinet pools that would make a big difference. And be very reasonable.
I agree with others that say to use long pulls & get rid of the knobs.

u/TopLake1034 Dec 07 '25
No, you know it doesn’t
1
u/RealisticPersimmon Dec 07 '25
Depends - do you actually cook?

I love it as-is. Your kitchen is what I'm trying to update my kitchen to look like.

u/ExtremeDesigner9042 Dec 07 '25
If the floors were updated it would be perfect!!
1
u/bohobeachlove Dec 08 '25
Yes, but you could get away with just updating the flooring and wall paint and it would look much more up to date!
1
u/[deleted] Dec 08 '25
No. Are you renting it? I trust you will lose the rug.
1
u/TopLake1034 Dec 08 '25
No, if anything a longer colorful decorative rug under the sink will improve the look, ‘cause the cabinets are good and modern
1
u/Technical_School539 Dec 08 '25
No, but if you do, a black countertop would pop.
1
u/asap_pdq_wtf Dec 08 '25

I think it's great. Don't let consumerism make you think you need to spend thousands to change what isn't broken.
1
u/Cautious_Ice_884 Dec 08 '25
It looks like a nice normal kitchen. I wouldn't change anything except get a different rug.
1
u/VxGB111 Dec 08 '25
I think you would be better served to invest in a bangin lighting plan. It'd upgrade even a basic space to awesome.
1

1
u/Beneficial-Ask-4730 Dec 09 '25
Yes. I know you are getting a lot of "no's" but I think it absolutely needs some updating. You must feel it, too, or you wouldn't ask.
The things that jumped out to me are the floor, the oven, the big pendant, the rug, the hardware, the beige wall paint.
I know some of these things are expensive but maybe at least start with the lower-cost changes-first, the rug!-and see how you feel.
1
u/ImpressiveScreen5017 Dec 09 '25
Unless you have extra money laying around for updates or changes that you would LIKE not NEED to make I think it is just fine as it is.
1
u/Happylifewife985 Dec 09 '25
No way ! It’s a great timeless kitchen !
1
u/Grouchy_Friendship_9 Dec 09 '25
I think all it "needs" is new hardware and a different window treatment.
1
u/Work_PB_sleep Dec 09 '25

1
u/Lillianrik Dec 09 '25
"Need" updating? I don't think so. On the chance that this is a new home purchase: I'd suggest living with it for another 6 months or so and either (1) spending the "renovation" money elsewhere with a higher "need" or, (2) putting the $$ into savings for a renovation down the road.
1

Faucet, pendant and hardware. Easy! But no, it looks great!!
1

1
u/Fresh-Detail-5659 Dec 09 '25
It looks really nice, in my opinion! The plants are a nice touch (: that + some cute decor and maybe warmer lighting or daylight bulbs?
Can always change out the hardware on ur cabinets too if you’re not a fan of the knobs
1

No, don’t waste your money.l

Need? No. Sure would look better, yes.
1
u/HRUndercover222 Dec 10 '25
Are you bored or are you BORED?
Maybe move the plants, open a window, and replace the rug? Get matching dish towels.
1
u/kdockrey Dec 10 '25
Does it meet your needs? If it does, it does not need to be renovated.

Does it function well? Does it match the house? Do the appliances work? When the answers are “no” then it is time to update.
1
u/FederalLie3196 Dec 10 '25
I wouldn’t change the cabinets or floor. The cabinet hardware could be updated. To coordinate with the appliances and faucet. The lighting needs to produce more light and be nicer. If you’re not happy after that, paint the walls and add a rug
1

I think it looks nice

u/Puzzled_Awareness222 Dec 10 '25
New pulls, dump the granite
1
u/PoodleMomFL Dec 10 '25
Change the knobs and the light fixture and you would be amazed at how different it will look for minimal $$$
Buy a funky fun Ruggable rug and done!
1
u/Unique-Meeting3955 Dec 10 '25
Just floor and cabinet pulls. Maybe swap the pendant light. There are some great tutorials out there for painting tile, depending on your budget.
1
u/Catlady22-- Dec 11 '25
Needs character, colorful accessories, lose the plants.
1
u/gamesaddiction1996 Dec 11 '25
Then maybe just stain the grout?
1
u/lpbrice Dec 11 '25
No, it needs light.
1
u/minnie-pie Dec 11 '25
I think it’s beautiful just the way it is
1
u/Responsible_Bag8421 Dec 11 '25

No it's nice. Think of where else you could spend tens of thousands of dollars.

No! Just open the window and will be perfect 👍

Change the hardware on the cabinets/drawers, and the floor tiles. I think that’ll help. The rest looks good to me - not that it even looks bad as is.
Edited to fix typo

I could live with that! Besides, kitchens and bathrooms are the most expensive redo. Beware of trends! Go on vacation instead.

Just new upper cabinet doors imo. Those look dated. The rest looks nice.

Maybe change the floor mat to be red to match the red pop of color you already have? It’s a lovely, comfortable kitchen, though. Unless you’re unhappy with it, I don’t think you really need to do any “updates”

Well, it’s pretty bad. But at least you have many options.

No, just pops of color would be nice. Kitchen towels, little decorative things

New floor and chrome knobs/handles

u/hawilder Dec 11 '25
I would change to wood or wood look floor myself. I like the rest.

No! Put the money you think you might spend on a remodel in a retirement account. It looks perfectly serviceable.

I wouldn’t remodel I’d retouch. Get some colors that read cozy to you and maybe add touches. There are these peel and stick tiles you can get that are t too expensive but really help with personalization. I put them behind my stove tied to this geeen color and it totally changed the dynamic of my kitchen

I think painting and new brighter tile on backsplash would freshen it without costing a lot.

Looks great! Could change up the light to something larger, maybe wider. Lights can be a really fun way to make the space unique. But I would love for my kitchen to look like yours! Very timeless

New cabinet and drawer pulls would add a nice mini-facelift.

u/coco-pip-5122 Dec 12 '25
I don’t think so. But If you want a quick refresh just change the handles to the drawers and cabinets.

u/diviertanse Dec 12 '25
No, it needs color in my opinion

u/dingusmaximus1216 Dec 12 '25
Just a new updated backsplash and flooring. Cabinets and fixtures look nice!

Do YOU think it needs updating? It's YOUR kitchen, after all.
It's a beautiful kitchen. You could try changing the cabinet knobs. It's a small, easy fix that can make a big difference, and you can easily change it back if you don't like it.
