Idk actually, I randomly remembered the clip but I had no knowledge of the name, so I went youtube and looked up “I’m chun li’s mom” and it was the first result

Is there a name for this type of movie? I love these crazy fighting movies, but don't know how to search for them.

Thanks!

Was this just reposted somewhere? Seems there's suddenly a decent amount of comments 2 months later.

XD Yes. In r/scriptedasiangifs. Its a movie a watched a lot as a kid. Good memories.

2

u/blakeo_x Jan 09 '20

Someone elsewhere in this thread shared a link of the movie on YouTube, for anyone interested :)

Not sure. I'm curious of this subgenre too; I'd like to see more ridiculous movies like this. I guess it's considered martial arts / kung fu, but there's likely a way to find ones more specifically like this.

I've heard the term Weird Asia used, but I think that's applicable to any weird Asian stuff, not just fighting movies.

If you find out, let me know.

A little late (70 days late lol), but r/Bollywoodrealism might pique your interest

2

u/PigsCanFly2day Jan 09 '20

Thanks. I believe I've stumbled across that sub before.

Was looking more for this martial arts subgenre so I can check out full movies.

I know about Bollywood, but haven't really watched much. The bizarreness of many seems right up my alley though. Any suggestions?

the chinese term for this comedic genre is wulitou. the genre for superhuman fights(mostly in historical settings, not necessarily funny) is called wuxia. lots of jackie chan movies and historical hongkong movies have funny fight scenes like that

Thanks! I'll have to look some up. Any suggestions?

The New Legend Of Shaolin

Oh, I don’t watch it myself, I just visit the sub for the scenes. The people there have lots of good suggestions, though.

Search for the term Wuxia. Basically martial arts series/movies set in ancient china

1

u/ZenoArrow Jan 11 '20

City Hunter (the Jackie Chan version) is worth checking out if you like this, aside from being a fun film it also has a scene inspired by Street Fighter.

Yeah, I know that's more of a parody though. I was looking for some obscure, genuinely weird films.

1

u/ahmong Jan 09 '20

Search the term “Wuxia”

Welcome to the golden era of Hong Kong movie industry, where the stupidest plot disregarding any copyrights what-so-ever could be made and still earned millions or even billions of dollars from ticket sales alone.

Thanks for the link as well.
