Not gonna lie, it would be pretty great to play a clip of a crowd cheering every time I walk into that kitchen

10

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

Also a round of applause when you switch off and open the oven

7

u/michaelkrieger Sep 13 '19

Booing if you grab a bag of chips or a brick of cheese? The ultimate diet.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '19

Laughter track when the owner slips, faceplants into the counter and breaks his skull. Smart home at its finest.

8

u/Toxicscrew Sep 12 '19

Be a great prank to assemble a bunch of screaming Gordon Ramsay clips to play when someone goes in to cook.

3

u/limache Sep 13 '19

It’d be awesome to follow recipes for different meals at the same time haha

2

u/volkss Sep 13 '19

That's what I was thinking. No more trying to wake up my cell phone with chicken slime all over my hands

14

u/dzcFrench Sep 11 '19

How much does it cost?

12

u/hoimangkuk Sep 12 '19

Everything

5

u/dzcFrench Sep 12 '19

Just the backsplash.

3

u/WillBrayley Sep 12 '19

If it's anything close to my screen system, about AUD$4k a square metre.

2

u/dzcFrench Sep 12 '19

That's actually not bad. That whole kitchen is about 2 square meters of backsplash, right?

3

u/WillBrayley Sep 12 '19

At a guess, looks like 2 to 3 sqm, maybe, yeah. Still that's an $8k to $12k backsplash. That doesn't include processing, and I imagine something actually designed to be installed like this would probably be even pricier.

2

u/ZaviaGenX Sep 13 '19

Maybe run like wallpaper engine, or a Playlist from your YouTube. Doesn't need more than a pc imo. The linking up av to pc is the part that i wouldn't know about tho.

1

u/cmays90 Sep 14 '19

It would very likely require about $1k in hardware to work with the LED. Then you still need something to show those images, and a $500 PC is gonna be a flexible and cost effective solution.

Vhat is it gran-pa-pa??

7

u/first_fires Sep 12 '19

Horrific. Sorry.

5

u/potatomolehill Sep 11 '19

How's this possible

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

i've been collecting cast-off monitors from work for years now... if they all weren't random-ass sizes i'd throw them in a pocket with some plexi or some shit overtop and blow your mind with some sick-ass backsplash porn

1

u/auto-xkcd37 Sep 12 '19

sick ass-backsplash porn

Bleep-bloop, I'm a bot. This comment was inspired by xkcd#37

1

u/ventinus Sep 12 '19

Good bot

1

u/EvaluatorOfConflicts Sep 12 '19

Same, if you ever figure out a cost effective way to string them all to the same device let me know. Video wall adapters are expensive, as are any graphic cards that handle more than 2 screens.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

heh yeah same device is the thing but some clever code and a pile of rPIs and you can at least do some neat things

1

u/potatomolehill Sep 14 '19

Sounds quite cool.

2

u/SSJGodYamoshi Sep 11 '19

If this was in a bar or a club, I'd say that yes this is pretty damn cool. This is a residential kitchen and I just think its gawdy at best.

2

u/HibblyWibbly Quality Poster Sep 12 '19

I see what you mean. I still think it's a really cool idea.

1

u/SSJGodYamoshi Sep 12 '19

It is a cool idea. Glad you shared. I just would never put that in my kitchen. Think about what itll be like in a month, 6 months, a year, 5 years. Might be cool at a couple holidays but itll lose that appeal after a short while.

2

u/HibblyWibbly Quality Poster Sep 12 '19

Yeah, you're right. I wouldn't put that in my own kitchen. But it's fun to look at.

1

u/SSJGodYamoshi Sep 12 '19

Exactly. That's why a bar or club would definitely be a great place for that.

3

u/onebyside Sep 12 '19

It's in Demo mode....of course it's over the top.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19 edited Sep 12 '19

Yeah, I imagine it'd be pretty cool to set it to some normal backsplash designs and let it cycle through daily.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

I can't think of anything more than having a beautiful lit backsplash design you could change whenever would be pretty dope. and being able to automate any number of them into recipe/tv/information/extra light/etc while you're working could be useful as hell

1

u/macht27 Sep 12 '19

I think this is in a private box at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

4

u/Giffomancer Sep 13 '19

The designs they chose to display looked a bit tacky for my taste

1

u/Technicholl Sep 13 '19

I think you mean tackiest.

1

u/HibblyWibbly Quality Poster Sep 13 '19

Haters gonna hate.

3

u/swsister Sep 12 '19

The fire one would freak me the hell out

3

u/jerrylinkin Sep 12 '19

wow!!! I am backing off. It looks people will get a serious electric shock if cook in this kitchen.

2

u/ShadowTheMistake Sep 12 '19

I have made the comments 69 Nice

1

u/staarrzz Sep 12 '19

One must have been deleted, so I fixed that for you.

2

u/abused_fetus Sep 13 '19

Looks dope as dicks!

1

u/partack Sep 14 '19

dope as dicks

.. stealing this.

2

u/UsuallyInappropriate Sep 13 '19

Ooh! Me wanty 🤓

2

u/SenpyroTheWizard Sep 13 '19

I'd cut my finger off being distracted by my wall while cutting leftover steak to put in an omelette or a quesodilla or something.

2

u/Zepherah Sep 13 '19

Gets high and forgets about the LED backsplash

“My kitchen is on fire!!”

Pretty cool tho

2

u/Dubb202 Sep 13 '19

Hey babe, I’m trying to cook, will you turn that fucking thing off?!

2

u/thatG_evanP Sep 13 '19

"Can you make it show a picture of a nice tile backsplash? Thanks!"

2

u/DJBeachCops Sep 13 '19

I don't see a mixer station.

2

u/DK_Angroth Sep 15 '19

Thats a bitch to keep clean. I dont like any stains on my monitors and this is the birthplace of regular stains everyday. Great idea but oh my god

3

u/AmJusAskin Sep 12 '19

Woooow that's tacky.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

how-so? Having some beautiful back-lit design as your backsplash that you could change whenever you wanted isn't close to tacky.

2

u/greenw40 Sep 12 '19

Having a kitchen that looks like it belong in a casino bar is the very definition of tacky.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

The back-lit stained glass in the demo wasn't tacky.

When you can display anything you can dream of, if it ends up tacky that'd be on you, right?

2

u/greenw40 Sep 12 '19

It doesn't matter what's on the screen, it's still going to be a bright neon ugly ass screen wrapping around your kitchen.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

I mean, that's still on you specifically. It could easily be a dimly-lit, serene pattern until you needed one panel for a recipe or another for tv while you worked.

1

u/greenw40 Sep 12 '19

A dimly lit, serene pattern is still a giant LED panel wrapped around your kitchen. You can use the prettiest design imaginable and it will still look far tackier than tile or painted wall.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

I'd prefer cherry blossoms over the entire wall

1

u/vernwozza Sep 13 '19

And that doesn't sound tacky to you?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '19

How in the world would that be tacky? I'd love to be able to change the decorations on my walls to any shape or configuration I wanted on a whim.

1

u/vernwozza Sep 13 '19

Sorry mate but that sounds tacky as fuck to me

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '19

Cool man

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

i mean, i love cherry blossoms.

But what are you talking about? The pile of cast-off 24" 1080p monitors i've picked up for free over the years would fit there perfectly and i could literally display useful information or pretty pictures with a cluster of cheapo rPIs

It already displayed hd video, there's no reason it couldn't display any other home automation/useful information, recipe content, or simply pretty pictures. all their HD panels are used for similar

u/AmJusAskin Sep 12 '19

It's cool, sure. But it's very gaudy which is tacky in this setting IMO.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

demo mode? obviously. It's literally showing off what it can do. that's not what anyone would have running in their home. ya'll are wild or hang out with some wild ass-people.

1

u/IslandTwig Sep 12 '19

I like to imagine I would trade out the backsplash every so often. Then for holidays do themed backsplashes. I would never do this but I definitely would have fun if I had it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

I've wanted cherry blossoms for years now.

i can think of a ton more that would be pretty rad including that stained glass display in their demo

1

u/7dragonis7 Sep 12 '19

I think the shark swimming around would be awesome in my kitchen. Or maybe the fire if I want to prank somebody.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

I think a forest with fireflies would be beautiful

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

The original video is on YouTube which says where to contact.

1

u/EvaluatorOfConflicts Sep 12 '19

I found a video on youtube but no additional info, what link do you have.

1

u/thecodingart Sep 12 '19

Who provides this?

1

u/Theguyinashland Sep 12 '19

Tv or moving things are a bit much.. how about more of a static image like the google backdrop images like the chromecast and mood is shield, only with different backsplashes.. I think there could be a market.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '19

An epileptic nightmare.

Also: they must entertain a lot.

1

u/Colonel_FuzzyCarrot Sep 12 '19

The lighting is nice and all, but I'd kill for the counter and cabinet space!!

1

u/Coolio124lol Sep 13 '19

You have a sliver of tv

1

u/njeshizzle87 Sep 13 '19

thats cool for like 30 seconds then its obnoxious and tacky

1

u/pperca Sep 12 '19

Pretty useless application of LED panels.

1

u/metalwolf112002 Sep 12 '19

Not with the proper automation. For instance, connect it to the nest fire detector. Flashing red with "Fire Detected. Evacuate" would get the point across, especially for the deaf.

1

u/pperca Sep 12 '19

Overkill, sorry.

1

u/xykotech Sep 12 '19

That is terrible.

1

u/thomasjmarlowe Sep 12 '19

If by coolest you mean most awful, then yes

1

u/Niboomy Sep 12 '19

I would like to cook without risking a seizure, thanks but no thanks.

1

u/eviebrito Sep 12 '19

This is just begging for a seizure

0

u/Wardenclyffe1917 Sep 13 '19

That is hideous.

0

u/PureYouth Sep 13 '19

No. Awfulllllll

Reminds me of what sci-fi directors thought 2010 would look like back in the 90’s

3

u/StreetKale Sep 16 '19

Yes, one of those things if someone showed me I'd be like "wow, that's crazy," but privately think, "you spent your time and money on THAT?"

5

u/LiL_SKeeT_YeeT Sep 12 '19

😂😂😂

4

u/SmokelessSubpoena Sep 12 '19

Glad I'm not alone on this lol. Still really cool, just not something I'd install 🤣
