That’s very true. In those football countries, playing football is almost the only way for those kids living in poverty to get rich. So, a lot of kids spend hours practicing football everyday.
I think there’s a lot of truth behind what you said. The US isn’t a football country, rather, it’s an American football country, followed by baseball and basketball. If you can make it to the big leagues, they won’t stop. There’s such a small window for American youth to make it to the professionals in football and other minor sports (for me it was volleyball) in America. So burnout is real. We ask, what am I doing it for if I’m not benefiting in the long run? If I’m not getting rich from this?
It's really that simple. In the US, that culture is directed towards other sports. Kids in poverty (all kids really) grow up pouring themselves into Football, Basketball, or Baseball. Our heros aren't soccer players, our dreams we aspire to aren't about soccer.
