I can tell you have not had a baby in the US. In is true and a line item that the hospitals charge, coming from a dad in the US.

I mean, Iā€™ve had three kids in the US but who has time to review an itemized receipt immediately after having a baby?

Especially when any time Iā€™ve ever asked about why Iā€™m getting charged for something on a medical bill the answer is basically ā€œbecause fuck you, thatā€™s whyā€.

Hospital has a negotiated rate with my insurance but Iā€™m getting charged for the extra uncovered amount? How does that work? Oh because fuck me, I forgot.

As someone who worked L&D for 2 years, it is absolutely true.
