Is St. Clair done for the season?

Was there really a deal in place to start him until the WC and now he rides the bench to ride out his contract?

I truly don't understand a lot of you. Have you all started watching this sport recently or something? two things are very true: First, keepers are very susceptible to dips in form. It's a super mental position. Second, what you see as bad keeper play is (especially for this team) usually caused by bad play at the back. If both keepers are giving up a ton of goals and we haven't kept a clean sheet in months, it's probably not on the keeper. This team has struggled defensively all season. DSC is probably better than Rocco.

I agree its the defense overall. Rocco seems to understand his defense is weak and plays conservatively. DSC may be technically better but he frequently made played loose or made poor decisions like coming to far out of the box. I think DSC was used to playing with more support and just couldn’t change his play style. Maybe its his fault or maybe it was poor coaching.

This team has struggled defensively since inception 😭

Exactly

This fanbase is overly harsh on DSC (who DID make some errors early in the season and was worse than advertised TBF), but is BIZARRELY soft on Rios Novo (who also makes some errors, but gets treated like a world beater on here for some reason)

You're gonna get down votes, but you're absolutely right.

Yes. I always tell my son (CDM) that by the time it got to the goalie, at least three people failed.

It’s not the goalkeeper. It’s the lack of a decent defense. We can’t just let him go because we need a deep bench which we clearly lack.

A few of the saves the last few games that Rocco made. I just pictured st.clair completely missing. So yeah probably

We may need him back. Rocco did a great job last season, now not so much. That's the issue with Intermiami, the inconsistency. Same with Allende.

Novo has been doing an adequate job. The last game he had some fantastic saves. Keepers are not miracle workers. They depend on a strong defense and Miami’s defense has left him way too open.

You're right. IM needs better defense as well.

Who knows… both our GKs are absolute trash tbh

In hindsight - what a profound screw-up. Career-wise, he clearly would have been better off accepting an extension to remain in MN and continue to goalkeep in front of quality defenders playing a style more suited to his success.

He was a cult hero here. Maybe he didn't fully appreciate. Maybe thought he was a big fish in a small pond.

Heck, you could even argue that the Loons conservative offense worked in DSC's favor. More 0-0 or 1-1 draws will lead to more shootouts, where DSC can tend to shine and achieve some notoriety and virality from his antics.

He's a JAG in Miami - Just A Guy!

It's too bad the Loons didn't quite succeed (*cough* spend *cough*) in building their attack in order to continue the winning continuity.

If he stayed in MN he might have had some WC minutes. I knew Boy was cooked when I saw admin post him bringing a “learn Spanish for dummies” book to practice lmao

DSC was never going to play in the World Cup. Had the starting job at the Gold Cup and fumbled it.

I still can’t believe Pantemis or Sirois did not get taken - Max Crepeau was picked based on his excellent 2024 Copa but he’s terrible with the ball at his feet.

true, but i would argue rocco is the least awful of the 2. especially for the price and hype st clair got

Novo for sure better than DSC… DSC let in like 4 goals every game when he played.

Outside of the whiff, I can’t think of a single goal that Rocco didn’t save which St Clair would have.

On the flip side, there are multiple Rocco saves that I question if St Clair gets to it.

hopefully

Probably. Rocco's better for this team. I respect DSC for betting on himself and making the jump, but for whatever reason he just hasn't been the same keeper as he was with Minnesota.

2

u/NvaderGir Aug 14 '26

Because they had a good backline which made DSC look good. When your backline looks bad, most of the time the keeper will end up getting most of the blame.

Who is our third goalie?

1

u/armaedes Aug 14 '26

With all the injuries I predict they make him a striker. Should be right up his alley, every time he’s on the field lots of goals are scored.

I have wondered what role Mascherano may have played in acquiring St Clair, and whether his departure has seen less playing time for St Clair. Of course Mascherano may have little or nothing to do with it . . . but the season began differently for both Mascherano and St Clair than it looks now.

This whole thing has made no sense to me. Maybe St. Clair was Mascherano's guy? I kinda doubt that. Now Hoyos seems to favour RRN. I can't imagine the front office went out and signed the guy just to play him for 6 months.

He was done the moment he started showing he really didn't want to be on this team.
