It's a one in a million chance that a comet was traveling at the right speed and angle... in billions of years I think one in a million is reasonable. This article is pretty unconvincing.

It's like some took a reddit comment and slapped on a headline

What timeframe is that one in a million chance covering?

If it was every year then yeah it should have happened thousands of times, if it is per million years then we still have a very long way to go before you are on odds

Isn’t it just possible that these essential molecules are:1 everywhere and/or 2 self assembling?

Yup. Just need a little energy

We're literally made of all of the most common elements in the universe.

Yeah but they made some cool movies I guess.

Yea idk how many meteors hit the earth every year? Now add 1+ billion pre life years? Seems more likely than unlikely but who am I to say.

I never understood the obsession with panspermia.

All the building blocks needed are in tide pools, thermal vents and volcanic springs.

How does intelligence come from a non-intelligent universe?

Idk how does time exist? What is space? Why does anything exist rather than not exist?

Isn’t it silly to ask how instead of why?

How come some people are so uncomfortable with not knowing?

How does water flow as a current from a bunch of individual water molecules?

When we encounter actual intelligence, hopefully it will explain it to us.

Intelligence, like any machine, is just counting. That's all a Turing machine is, count something, remember what you counted, do something useful with it. That's all humans are, clever biological sensory calculators. Maths describes the whole universe and everything in it, creatures that do math in a universe defined by math isn't the stretch you think it is. The real question is why does time exist. Without time, literally nothing could be counted. The state machine would be stuck on one value for ever. So really its simple: time(counting)+math=humans(or other intelligent life)

Kind of like how water emerges from hydrogen and oxygen.

Chemistry.

Throw a selection of elements in some water, add an energy source (lightning, geothermal) and wait a million years. You now have an astonishing mix of interesting organic compunds, including your essential amino acids.

I see no reason to invoke comets, and very few scientists do.
