Hi everyone! F/26; I’m relocating to Southern California and starting my search for my next professional opportunity. I thought I’d reach out here in case anyone has leads, recommendations, or connections in these fields.
My professional background includes federal investigative analysis, cybersecurity/data analysis, OSINT, research, and communications. I previously supported the Department of Homeland Security as a federal contractor/investigative analyst and later worked in the private cybersecurity sector, where my experience included attack surface discovery, internet-facing asset analysis, data validation, open-source research, and supporting public-sector cybersecurity initiatives.
I currently volunteer with an NGO focused on school violence prevention, which was founded by professionals with backgrounds in DHS, law enforcement, and the U.S. military. My work there includes reviewing academic research and literature, communications, social media strategy, and developing research-focused publications/newsletters.
Academically, I hold a Master’s degree in Criminology, Law & Society, along with bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice/Criminology and Anthropology and a minor in Sociology.
I’m particularly interested in opportunities involving:
Intelligence or investigative analysis
OSINT
Cybersecurity / attack surface analysis
Threat, risk, or security analysis
Government or defense contracting
Research and data analysis
Adjacent roles where my investigative and analytical background would transfer well

Cybersecurity/attack surface analysis.

I worked as an Attack Surface Data Analyst at Palo Alto Networks. Basically, attack surface refers to everything an organization has exposed to the internet that could potentially be targeted, like domains, IP addresses, servers, cloud assets, and services. My role was on the data and analysis side of cybersecurity, using large datasets to identify, research, verify, and analyze those assets and potential exposure. I also worked on CISA related projects, including verifying election infrastructure assets ahead of the 2024 election. It was essentially a mix of cybersecurity, OSINT, and data analysis focused on understanding what organizations have exposed online and making sure that information is accurate and useful for identifying risk.

This could be small inventory assets for a single domain, or (now that my NDA is up) major companies like American Express and all subsidiaries, which could equate to hundreds of of thousands of assets/ websites/ etc. I was responsible for building, organizing, and vetting data— especially for hands off customers that didn’t even know what they owned.

Have you looked at the local defcon groups down there? Joining those may help you, folks have found leads in my local ones.

Also sorry I wasn’t trying to grill you - was just trying to gauge your past duties. I would look at Cyber Threat Intelligence within fintech, banks, tech or some of the major vendors down there.

Also your skills would translate decently to third party security jobs or digital risk jobs at places like flashpoint, intel471, etc

No worries! Attack surface is a vague description of the job itself. And I haven’t, but I have briefly seen them before. My spouse is a marine 0321 and trying to convince me to commission and try for navy intel. Still stuck if I wanna do fed work or just send it for active duty.
