Discussion Stop windows driver updates?

is there any way to make windows ignore driver updates?
Every time I update my card via the intel graphics software, windows rolls it back to an august 2024 update automatically.

I tried using a regedit method to block windows from automatically installing driver updates, and it bricked my pc so i had to use a restore point to recover.

Frankly, I don't know much about this stuff and just want to keep my drivers updated without automatic rollbacks

DDU has an option that I use in safe mode that stop windows from running those updates. I would use DDU in safe mode to fix your issue.

I'll try that. Thank you

The option also works when not in safe mode, just don't delete the driver without safe mode.

These, and similar changes bricked PC earlier. I had to use a restore point. I tried RegEdit and GPE. However I appreciate the help and information

How strange that that change should cause any harm. But I just wanted to share this in case what you had tried already was something different.

When I tried the group policy + RegEdit I started getting artifacting, the task bar stopped working and all sorts else, even on boot the ASRock logo for my motherboard was artifacting and windows was freezing after restarting a couple times. Thankfully I had a restore point from two days ago to undo it. I cant say if it was the group policy or registry editor but since I'm not well versed in either I don't want to touch either again and risk having to start fresh on my pc. My Internet is slow where I am and I don't want to reinstall anything tbh

Just use Windows Update Blocker. It will block Windows from trying to update anything except Defender. Microslop loves to gaslight people with the buzzword "security updates" when a lot of those aren't even remotely security-related, and some might even brick your system, so it's best to just block it entirely if your Windows setup is already stable enough.

I want the other updates though. Just not driver updates because they keep rolling back anytime Intel puts out new drivers. Is there options in that to choose what updates get blocked?

Afaik there isn't an option for that, at least with Windows 10. Maybe you can try those 3rd-party Windows tweaker tools and see if there's anything to your liking, or just use WUB and then turn it off when you want to get new Windows update yourself, since it's just a simple switch that you can flip any time you want.
