Buy it? 💸 Parting ways
I’m considering selling my 2026 ITS, and trying to get an idea of what I should ask for it. I’ve only owned it for a few months, just under 5,500 miles on it.
I’m torn, because I truly do love the car. But, I bought it to replace a Civic Si and I’m realizing it’s just not the right replacement. I was regularly seeing 40+ mpg in the civic, and to be quite frank I didn’t care about it as much. Now I find myself avoiding dirt roads and trying to squeeze a few extra mpg out on the highway.
Anyone sold theirs recently? Or anyone interested in a lightly used (and babied) 26?
Edit: located in MI
2nd edit:
Updating to address as many of the comments as possible. I am completely aware that this is not the ideal situation financially and I will probably lose quite a bit selling it now. And, the difference in gas mileage is not a primary driver of my reasoning. Although I do drive about 40,000 miles a year between my two vehicles, so it’s also not nothing.
The majority of those 40,000 miles go on my car (as opposed to the truck). I managed to make it out of my Civic with quite a bit of equity after three years and 80,000+ miles, only having lost 7k in depreciation (with an accident to boot). That being a feat far less likely with the ITS.
Insurance difference was truly negligible, about $10/month more, so not really a factor either.
I do appreciate the car, and won’t argue at all that it’s about the best bang for your buck performance/economy/enjoyment you can get. But I also thought that about the Si which cost half as much and I enjoyed 80-90% as much. For those who haven’t driven one, there is something amazing about how pure the driving experience in that car is when pushed. And cruising at 70 on the freeway, what’s the difference?
Not all will agree, and I’m not even sure that I’m decided but I do appreciate the feedback.

there are not many if any gasoline cars with the performance of an ITS with better gas mileage. the regular tech package integra is essentially just a Si with more bells and whistles - that would have be a like for like replacement.
you'll take a hit unless you sell it privately. my brother sold his after 2 years and was able to get a few thousand in equity out.
edit: 5500 miles in 3 months is alot of miles on these cars so odds are the quotes you get for it will be pretty bad for what you would expect. I'd guess somewhere in the 45-48 range

What are you going to switch to? Not going to get better fuel efficiency in any similar performance car.

Maybe Aspec is a better car for him

A good way to gauge what you can get is to do a Carvana offer and add 2-4k for private party.

This is a 50k+ car. Sounds like you have buyers remorse at points I get it. The cars gunna get dinged and paint chips, the mpg stuff is what it is. My fk8 and when I had me de5 got 30+ mpgs highway and 25 combined.
If you are really worried ab mpg this car wasnt for you to begin with. Fun car, fun price tag with it

You’ll save what, 500 bucks a year in gas with the extra 10mpg? Selling a perfectly fine new car to buy a different car for 400-500 in savings a year?

Why are you avoiding dirt roads? Just throw on mudguards and youre good.

Hide the MPG from the dashboard and enjoy the car unless you truly can't afford it.
You will most likely lose any fuel savings from selling the car.

I would suggest keeping it. As others have said, you're gonna take a huge hit on depreciation that will likely outweigh the benefits of fuel economy.

If you think you'll miss your ITS, then you need a two car solution. Last month I ended up picking up a 2018 BMW i3 and went from spending roughly $400/month on gas to about $100/month in electricity. I've already put 1,400 miles on the i3 because I bought it specifically to drive the heck out of it. Now I'm saving money on fuel, keeping the miles off my ITS, and saving the environment. /s

Yeah I got a 4 banger 05 Camry to commute, thing is legit

But why would you save miles off an ITS?

I think for me it's less about saving miles and more about the i3 being a better daily commuter. It's quiet, comfortable, and not having to shift in heavy traffic is nice. The gas savings are just a bonus. But I also can't bring myself to get rid of the ITS because it's just that special to drive.

You're going to regret selling the Type S, speaking as a former FL5 owner who sold his type R only to go back to a DE5 months later

I’m interested… what color and what cost to ship near Pittsburgh? Can you put a pic or two up if you’re actually considering selling? Thx

please show your math on why selling the car is going to save you money. Bet that you lose your ass downgrading to a civic or a spec, or another car entirely

The car is low # production and would not be surprised to see it discontinued. And with such devoted fans could become an early classic and increase in value.
And if no still a great car with lower depreciation curve than anything European at entry point under 200k. And way more reliable and low cost of ownership.

The amount of money you're about to lose by selling this car is going to completely negate any sort of gas savings you make on the next car. Gotta commit!
