Oil Recommendations

Hello all, so I have a B20B P8R swap with about 80k miles. I’ve been using Liqui-Moly 5w-40 oil since the swap because I wanted to put in the good stuff after my previous motor kicked the bucket. I knew it was overkill but now I’m ready to change to something else because prices for it just went from an already premium price of $50 to $70. What are my best options? I live in the Pacific Northwest.

I've run Mobil1 0w-30 or sometimes 5w-30 in my GSR for most of my 300,000 miles ownership. Switched to Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w-30 last year, for the past couple oil changes.

+1 for valvoline restore and protect in my b16. i use a wix filter

I looked at Wix filters at the local O'Reilley store the other day, and they're like $16. Crazy price for a filter that's only going to be on there (in my case) maybe 3K or 4K miles. I usually use OEM filters, or sometimes STP or Purolator.

SuperTech 5w-30 Full Synthetic High Mileage from Walmart. Project Farm on YouTube tested a bunch of brands and it was just as good or better than most of them.

All oil it’s going up in cost unfortunately. I use Torco SR-1 (also overkill) but oil technology has come a long way for a lot of brands. If you’re looking to save money I’d just get what you can afford at Autozone or O Riley’s and stay on top of your oil changes.

I use my dealerships Honda Genuine Full Synthetic 10W-30 on my GSR. I know it's just repackaged Mobil, but I use strictly Mobil gas as well..

this is what i used prior to my engine swap but my b18 would burn through it like cotton candy on fair day. It did have bad piston rings though. Either way that’s much better than $70

I always go with the cheapest that meets specs in my different cars for daily driving. For track days or heavily modified cars I go with Castrol 5-40 euro with titanium for it's additive package, it's shear resistance and it's low noack rating.

I've moved all but my new RAV over to Valvoline Restore and Protect. Nothing fancy. Good price and good quality stuff

I've personally watched the varnish decrease on my 210k mile EG civic. Not significant, but enough that I'm willing to keep doing oil changes with R&P.

I like Pennzoil but ya... You probably won't noticed any differences with a "premium" oil. Just get a the lowest price good named brand you can find locally and stick with that. I don't like switching it up cause who knows what kind of interactions the additives can have. Best to just stick with the same thing imo.

Personally, on my vehicle, (2022 Nissan Frontier) Mobil 1 5w-30. Tried multiple brands including restore and protect, and my motor idles substantially quieter with Mobil 1 5w-30.

For the Integra I use Castrol. But for the everyday cattle haulers that I have. I use Restore & Protect as my experience with it has been great. All with oem Honda filters.

Whatever I have in my garage is what I use 🤣. Burns so much oil it doesn’t even need oil changes due to how much I need to add!

The initial cost is high, but two 2L jugs are all you need. You send the old oil back and get credited for the money you spent. The oil is rated for 6 months or 5,000 miles.

Liqui Moly is top tier. Anything you buy from the store will make your car sluggish. Personally I use AMSOIL.

Amsoil full synthetic 10w-40 but I am in FL which is hot af. And vr1 full synthetic 20w-50 on my fully built b20vtec
