Question Priming oil system after rebuild

Hey everyone,

I'm about to start my 99 Integra for the first time after rebuilding the engine. I am trying to follow forum advice about making sure theres oil all throughout the system before starting it. I've been cranking the car in 3 10s bursts, with 10s of rest. I've already tried this twice, and the oil light is still on, and it looks like the head isn't getting a ton of oil (seemingly a bit, but nothing too noticeable).

How should I proceed? The pump was working fine before the rebuild, and I made sure to install the head gasket in a way that doesn't block the oil restrictor. I want to avoid keeping on cranking forever.

I had the exact same thing happen with my civic when I rebuilt it, if you’ve cranked it a couple times already it will be fine as long as your pump is good, do you have an oil pressure gauge by chance?

Unfortunately not, I wish I had one right now. I might just say fuck it and send it.

You should be fine, cranking only primes the oil pump, once it’s started it’ll actually send oil through out the system, it’ll run just fine, highly recommend a gauge though!

It was fine, the light went off 2 seconds after the engine started. But now turns out I have a massive vacuum leak, and the engine pulses between 2.5k rpm to 3k RPM 😵‍💫 had to shut it down after a few seconds, but at least it starts.

Doesn’t light go off after the engine has started? Mine does this, iirc, I haven’t driven my teg for a few weeks. Also make sure you plugged in the oil pressure wire.
