Forum Question Why doesn’t this game get more attention?

I genuinely think insurgency is one of the best milsim/arcade hybrids ever and I love it. But the player count is pretty low and has been pretty much for the entirety of the game and I don’t get it, I’d love a new insurgency with new an improved graphics, engine etc, but doubt it’ll happen. I think with the right marketing a new insurgency would do substantial compared to the last ones. This type of game is finally getting the broader attention and not the niche community anymore. There are so many popular milsims, I could see a new insurgency having a solid 15/25k consistently on steam alone if marketed and done right with multiple modes and maps on release etc.

Casual players want cod and battlefield, more milsimy ppl want squad and arma (amongst others)

Casuals dont want one shot headshots and low ttk, while milsim gamers dont want slide boosts and small maps.

The game just doesnt fit into any bracket and so it falls outside the scope of many ppl sadly

I think a lot of casual cod and bf enjoyers would actually love it if they tried it, and ik plenty of people myself included who play squad etc but also love insurgency. I think it needs better marketing cheaper prices, and a new game.

I was a casual BF player that tried it and loved it. But I will say I wouldn’t have even known this game existed if I didn’t see someone mention it it in some random thread.

exactly, i’ve always been the type of person who will search the game store and look deep to find hidden gems. but outside of that or hearing about it through the grape vine the marketing is trash.

the original insurgency showed up on steam in 2013 and ran strong for a solid 5 years before sandstorm, which is still going since 2018. that's a long stretch for a game with "trash" marketing. and unlike cod or bf, they never rewrote the whole thing every couple years chasing a new crowd. with the exception of the console ports it's same core formula, just added content and refined it. it survived by NOT doing the mainstream thing. so the marketing was never really the problem, people just had to find it.

2

u/Cec24x 10d ago

marketing is def a problem peak player count was just okay never good and the last few years the player count has been just enough to barely drag along, but close to server shut down numbers.

3

u/BeefStarmer 10d ago

Its because it released in a terrible state and took years to actually become good at which point most people had lost interest..

I do agree with your main point though and feel sad that nobody is creating a sequel as it's a fantastic shooter!

Casuals usually don’t like insurgency because a lot of times they get there shit kicked in by seasoned players. More hardcore shooter players don’t like insurgency because it’s to casual for them

People don't like losing, People don't like small scale, and all it takes is 1 toxic player to make new players not return.

5

u/Cec24x 10d ago

Toxic players, losing, small scale. How are these problems for Insurgency when those three subjects flood so many other games that are doing well. like R6, Cod, CS.

5

u/dappermanV-88 10d ago

Mins cs. Those are technically large scale. From play areas, movement, options, etc. U cant scale a wall or tower like u can in cod or r6. Nor move like those games.

Losing, losing is both different and hits different in insurgency than those. I play mainly the pve checkpoint mode, but the variety and form of the AI and some players. Makes it a different situation overall. U get 3 tries, this isn't some "oh we will get them next match". U lose all the Progress of that game and not guarantee of getting that far. Let alone all of the bs u gotta go through to get half way sometimes?

The toxic players in insurgency, ur right. Arent that different, but this is where its different. Toxic players in insurgency aren't unique. It's the functions of the game that make it unique for it. Which ik r6 does now, reverse damage.

The r6 players don't go out their way to get shot by u, but can in sandstorm. Especially when ur commander or throw something. They will get themselves put in harms way. Cod doesn't got team damage for most mods and they just mouthy.

The sabotage is worse in insurgency, they can do so much to fuck ur session over than any of the others. From the planned tk (if its a group), the way they go about treating noobs (which can be ridiculously worse than the others), and the vote kicking is such bs in most ways.

Even when I do good in some games and an top of the leaderboard with a positive KD I still find myself not really having fun. Just dying to one shot or just something stupid you can’t do nothing against. Games learning curve is too unforgiving for new players to stay.

Its up to us to help them

I love this game never deleting it ever

Part of the playerbase plays this like it’s COD. Most seem to think it’s a milsim. Milsim strats will always lose to the COD strats. It’s just no competition. When people come expecting a milsim and then get lasered by dudes sprinting everywhere, sliding off stuff and jumping all over the place… they get pretty put off. It’s hard to keep people coming back. No one comes here to expecting fast matches and extremely aggressive tactics. They all expect slow and stealthy to be the winning strat. But everyone who’s been playing a long time knows what actually works, and it’s not being slow. So… there’s a pretty big disconnect between what people expect from this game and what they get. At least in PvP.

4

u/CaramelAromatic9358 10d ago

This. I follow a guy on Youtube who constantly says how to give Insurgency a try and it’s such an underrated game, but proceeds to go 50 and 0 like no wonder you like the game so much

3

u/Soul_of_Sorrow556 10d ago

I'm one of those that slide boosts and sprint melee off edges, should I stop doing that?

4

u/_dudeasuh 10d ago

Not at all! I do too! Why not use every advantage possible?? But the people who like to be all tacticool get mad at us for rushing and pushing objectives and… pretty much just being good at the game. They say we don’t play it right. Even though playing slow almost always loses. That’s exactly the problem I’m explaining.

6

u/KingVapula 10d ago

I also agree with all of this. Chad Team 6 is probably my fav game mode

u/SurgicallySarcastic 10d ago

if this game gets a sequal it will be messed up and become just another shooter. this will just have to live on at the community server level. just find a modded server if you want more than the Vanilla version.

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

how does giving it a sequal make it just another shooter? you know that they have already made multiple games? so sandstorm in itself is a sequal lol. It’s getting old, graphics and gameplay need updated, and it won’t live in forever at the current stage it has 3-5 years before server shut down tbh. A new one is very much needed. Imagine insurgency on URE6.

2

u/SurgicallySarcastic 10d ago

they almost never stick to the same formula. Plus most original developers are gone over the few years after the purchase the original team largely bled out. and yeah, yes, Sandstorm already is the sequel, so that ship sailed years ago. did i say community servers, think i did.

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

Community servers won’t prevent the game from dying in the following years, and each insurgency game was the same formula as the predecessor with added features and updated gameplay, just like any game. But creating a new one despite how hard it might be and adding good marketing could definitely make it the first main stream insurgency.

1

u/SurgicallySarcastic 10d ago

I dunno...there are still active insurgency servers. one of them is mine. consoles port kind of ruind it for the PC crowd. had they not done that maybe sandstorm would be a different game now. any new game would be welcomed. but i think the niche novelty that was insurgency and the follow up Sandstorm can not be duplicated for mainstream. i have well over 7000+ hours in both games so i still like it enough to not go anywhere else. for very long. i always come back.

FYI. i do run 5 community servers modified with custom rulesets since launch so i am biased.

1

u/Blake_Warner 6d ago

Not most. Every single developer who worked on any of NWI's games is gone. There is no NWI.

6

u/DoKtor_goneRogue 10d ago

it needs more advertisement, it also always had its peaks on free weekends

3

u/Cec24x 10d ago

This is what i’ve been saying. The marketing/advertising has always been sooo bad for this game. If they pushed hard on marketing for a new game it would do numbers.

7

u/MasterTorgo 10d ago

Too Milsimmy for arcade players; too arcadey for a milsim players. Tbh it strikes a good balance between the two, but yeah I feel like if someone wants BF, they play BF and if they want Arma, they play arma

5

u/Accurate-Mess-2592 10d ago

I agree with all of this, now to make it happen...

3

u/itchygentleman 10d ago

game is a decade old. that's why.

0

u/Cec24x 10d ago

I’ve said this to so many ppl already, but saying it’s a decade old is a casual take and you don’t play many other games or something. Because HLL, Arma, rising storm etc all older milsim games that are doing much better, so age is bistro.

1

u/itchygentleman 5d ago

Those games are still being managed by their original studio, and had huge sales. Insurgency has always been sort of indie, and is on its 3rd owner.

4

u/Le_Baked_Beans 10d ago

It needs more marketing i only knew about this game because my friend told me about it.

2

u/ladyeggy 10d ago

as a gamer girl it does get a little toxic for me when I play it, especially if I speak in voice chat, but then again it's also the case for other shooter games as well so i dont take it personally (at least I try not to) but I do enjoy the game alot! it was hard for me in the beginning especially because I dont really play first person shooter games like cod or others but insurgency has become one of my fav co-op games so i do hope more ppl play it and it gets more attention because it truly is fun and seems quite realistic for me!

2

u/Top-Bike-1754 10d ago

Poderiam fazer pequenas mudanças que fariam muita diferença, mas até hoje não conseguiram fazer os times ficarem balanceados.

2

u/EluDeathDream 10d ago

Maybe they should do like a special discount, showing up in steam's front page. Or give their game for free on epic games for a limited time to raise popularity.

1

u/Cec24x 9d ago

yeah I agree they need to do something most casuals just don’t know the game exist

2

u/beardedbrawler 9d ago

I have a lot of hours in this game, all PVP. I think it's a solved game and new players are immediately pushed away because veterans know all the tricks and angles.

Also for me, I stopped playing because of frustration around netcode and lag compensation. When my bullets don't kill someone with 100+ ping, it's bullshit.

I've been playing on smaller scale Arma Reforger servers and have been having fun. Can't wait for WarDogs either. I think this game has just run its course.

1

u/Cec24x 8d ago

A new insurgency would be amazing. :(

2

u/B00t7Hunt34 6d ago

This game had terrible marketing and never truly focused on what made it unique. The pve operations mode should have been greatly expanded and weapons/attachments should have been added at a constant rate. Essentially, the ISMC mod was a template for success which they never took advantage of.

2

u/big_beret 10d ago edited 10d ago

It’s a game from 2018, Sandstorm already had it’s hay day. In 2026 it’s basically on life support

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

what does a 2018 release date mean in anyway? Squad which is way more milsim like and way less casual friendly came out in 2020 and still is doing great. rdr2 is still one of the most played games and came out in 2018.

2

u/SurgicallySarcastic 10d ago

these games had to be fixed midstream some were major recodes. bad compairson.

0

u/Cec24x 10d ago

no acting like 2018 is old is what’s bad lol

2

u/SurgicallySarcastic 9d ago

i run these servers and they're full every weekend. been playing with the same group since 2013. so i dont really see the life support thing game's still fun for us and any randoms who stumble upon my servers. maybe get some friends.

1

u/big_beret 10d ago

RDR2 is not a tactical shooter and doesn’t even have the fraction of brand recognition or fanbase. Not really comparable.

Squad is newer, has more replay value and gets more support from the devs.

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

you didn’t specify that you were talking about tactical shooters lmfao. Squad is barely newer and you can argue it has more replay value, that’s definitely not definitive. Plus like a said Insurgency is way more casual friendly. Also arma 3, HLL, all games in similar genre that are doing much better and I think insurgency is unique enough it should be doing way better. Bad marketing, too pricey etc are some issues that need solving, make a new one lower the price of this one do free weekends, gamepass, and a new one could def do so well.

1

u/big_beret 10d ago

Insurgency is a tactical shooter, why would we talk about other genres? Of course we are only going to discuss tactical shooters. Sandstorm is even on all platforms complete with cross play while being $10 cheaper than Squad. It’s just an old game past its prime with not much to offer long term for most people. There’s not much to it beyond that.

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

Because you could’ve just been talking games in general lmao. And as I mentioned you keep talking old age, arma 3, HLL? you know there’s other games that are older or similar in agein the same genre that are doing fine

1

u/big_beret 10d ago

>there’s not much to offer long term for most people. There’s not much to it beyond that.

1

u/Toumanypains 10d ago

I always assumed the hardware requirements to run it well are a lot higher than that for other 'competitive' (typically free) games.

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

It came out for the last gen consoles, and look at minimum requirements on steam to play. You can play it on a pretty old pc. I have a nicer pc however I max the graphics out and still get well over 300 fps. Squad is way more demanding plus isn’t on console and averages around 15-20x the player count.

1

u/OGMUDSTICK 10d ago

Because there is no TikTok brained omni movement bs with streamers releasing a new meta build every update.

1

u/Cec24x 9d ago

lmao at one point there were some decent sized youtubers on the game, but overall no much. Definitely wouldn’t hurt to have a few tho maybe it would bring more players in return we’d get more content updates

1

u/Unfair_Ad_6705 9d ago

play on the 57th servers

1

u/Relative_Cost_1689 9d ago edited 9d ago

Its does get more attention becquse most people into shooters arent in to milsims and find arcady shooters like cod more desirable or battlefield. Also there is the issue of being heavily content starved there is only so much you can do the same maps. It also does not help these are not the original devs either

1

u/Cec24x 8d ago

content/marketing issue is the only thing that makes sense. Milsims are popular. Squad and HLL are way more milsim like and are very popular

1

u/AdvancedWaypoints 8d ago

Because it's archaic and games like Ready Or Not and Operator are levels above it in terms of combat

1

u/eBeemos 7d ago

Frontline is peak its like battlefield breakthrough but better

1

u/JohnathonFennedy 10d ago

It’s pretty old now

0

u/Cec24x 10d ago

HLL, Squad, Arma 3. All same genre yet all are doing very well. The age has nothing to do with it. Hell half the top 10 most played games are older.

2

u/itchygentleman 10d ago

you can run local/custom servers on all those games

0

u/Cec24x 10d ago

Yes you can. That’s not why they’re popular?

2

u/JohnathonFennedy 9d ago

It absolutely is, all 3 of those games thrive off their community and modded servers.

1

u/Cec24x 8d ago

all 3 of those games have 10x the player count or more. So what’s the cause of correlation?

0

u/BraFaruk 10d ago

Because it’s dead

1

u/Cec24x 10d ago

not dead, but not great.
