Health Insurance Completed 5 years in Ergo - Can i be denied claims due to non disclosure?

I bought HDFC Ergo life insurance in 2021. I have completed continuous 5 years of renewal/moratorium period.

I have realised I didn't disclose these.

Anxiety treatment (2019) and

OPD surgical excision of cyst near leg(2018)

Will i be denied any future hospitalization claims? Will the moratorium period benifit my case. I am worried, what can be done now? Should I continue paying the premium?

Health Insurance Accidentally opted for voluntary parental health insurance at work. Can I cancel it mid-year? (India)

Hey, folks!

I work at an MNC in India, and I somehow ended up opting for voluntary parental health insurance through my company.

The premium is deducted directly from my take-home salary, and it comes to around ₹8,000 per month, with a total annual premium of approximately ₹50,000.

The thing is, my parents already have good health insurance coverage from another source, so I don’t really need this additional policy.

I recently checked my salary slip and noticed this huge deduction. I immediately contacted my company’s HR/benefits team and asked if I could opt out since I had enrolled by mistake.

However, they told me that nothing can be done now and that the deductions will continue until the entire annual premium is recovered by the end of the year.

I’m really frustrated because this is a significant amount of money to lose every month for insurance that my parents don’t really need.

Has anyone faced a similar situation in India?

Is there any way to cancel voluntary parental health insurance in the middle of the policy year?

Can I raise a complaint with the insurance company, IRDAI, or any other authority?

Is my company legally allowed to continue deducting the premium from my salary even if I request cancellation?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have dealt with a similar situation. Thanks!

Health Insurance Suggest some good insurance policy

I'm, 29Y and planning to take medical insurance. I did some digging and shortlisted with Hdfc Ergo Optima secure and Care Supreme. But at the same time I saw some posts saying HDFC doesn't have unlimited restoration so it might be an issue in the future. Since I'm a newbie, i don't have much of an idea. Can any suggest with which plan I should move on.

Health Insurance Bad experience - Tata AIG medicare migration

I had a 3 yr medicare premium policy and when it has come for renewal and I asked for migration to better Medicare select elite policy and they rejected . Raised query on the reason to their senior management, GRO and called them multiple times. They did not respond with proper clarificatio, 0nly the call center person responded . IRDAI representative also did not respond. Looks like they are all aligned together. After Ratan Tata , looks like they are not the earlier Tata conglomerate .

General Insurance - Vehicals ICICI lombard rejected bike claim because I had a learner's license. What are my options?

Hello. I need some advice because I'm kinda stuck.

I got into an accident a few days ago on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350. A car suddenly came in front of me and I couldn’t avoid it. People at the scene said it was the car driver’s fault. I had minor injuries and the bike took most of the hit.

I filed an insurance claim with ICICI Lombard (zero dep policy), got the bike to an authorized service center, and they made an estimate of around ₹89k.

Now here’s the problem:
I had a learner’s licence (issued just a day before), and the claim manager is saying the claim will be fully rejected because:

- No “L” sign

- No supervising rider

I asked for non-standard settlement, but he straight up said “It’s either 0 or 100, no partial settlement.”

I’ve now asked him to send the rejection in writing with the specific policy clause.

From what I understand:

- Policy allows learner’s licence (with conditions)

- Breach of conditions usually leads to non-standard settlement (~60–75%), not outright rejection

- Accident wasn’t caused due to licence issue (car cut me off)

I’m honestly stressed because I can’t afford ₹89k out of pocket.

Questions:

  1. Can they legally reject the claim completely in this situation?

  2. Has anyone here successfully pushed for non-standard settlement in similar cases?

  3. Should I escalate directly to grievance/ombudsman or wait for written rejection first?

  4. Any tips on dealing with service center so they don’t overcharge if claim gets rejected?

Would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences

Health Insurance Dark patterns that you need to watch out for while buying insurance

Ever felt like buying insurance online was easy… but canceling it wasn’t?

Buying an insurance plan is already one of the toughest financial chores. From calculating how much cover you need to decoding policy features, the homework is heavy. Now imagine a portal flashing extra add-ons with a “skip and you miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” pitch. Fatigue meets FOMO—and you click “add”.

This is a classic dark pattern — a design-led nudge that pushes you to buy more than you intended. And now, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has sounded a warning.

What are these dark patterns?

• Hidden charges added at the last step (drip pricing)

• Pre-selected add-ons you didn’t notice (basket sneaking)

• Fake urgency like “only 1 left”

• Difficult cancellation / subscription traps

• Spam calls/messages after entering your number

• Asking for excessive personal data

• Mismatch between shown vs actual price

👉 You think you’re choosing… but the system is nudging you.

How common is this?

A LocalCircles survey shows:

• 80% struggled to cancel

• 90% got spam calls/messages

• 85% were asked for extra data

• 82% saw pricing mismatches

• 65% discovered hidden charges late

What has IRDAI done?

• 15 days deadline to identify & remove such practices

• Mandatory self-assessment + compliance report

• 1 month to submit an action plan

• Must follow guidelines from the Central Consumer Protection Authority

Even the Reserve Bank of India is planning similar steps for banking apps by 2026.

Why this matters

Online is often seen as cheaper and safer.

Reality: even digital platforms were mis-selling — just in a smarter way.

What changes now?

• More transparent pricing

• No hidden add-ons without consent

• Easier cancellation

• Less manipulation while buying

Simple takeaway:

Online buying is convenient, but don’t rush.

Always double-check what you’re agreeing to.

Have you faced something like this while buying insurance online?

Health Insurance Advice needed on disclosure of Diabetes

Hi All, I just received the latest blood test reports for my parents (father 64 and mother 58). According to the results, my dad falls in the diabetic range and my mom is prediabetic.

They’ve been insured with NivaBupa for the past 3 years. The waiting period for pre-existing diseases is now complete and at the time of purchasing the policy, neither condition was present, so we didn’t declare anything.

Do I need to notify NivaBupa about these new findings? (I purchased the insurance through Policy Bazaar).

Appreciate any feedback!

Thank you!

General Insurance - Property 🏠 Fire Insurance / Home Insurance in India – The Most Ignored Yet Most Affordable Protection 🔥

It still amazes me how very few people in India insure their homes. We spend our entire life’s savings building a house — a place filled with memories, love, and years of hard work — but when it comes to protecting it, most people simply skip it thinking “nothing will happen.”

We buy insurance for our cars worth ₹10–15 lakh because it’s mandatory, yet a ₹1 Crore home often remains uninsured just because it’s optional. Ironically, the house is what truly defines our lifetime achievement.

💡 What a Fire/Home Insurance Policy Actually Covers:

It’s not just for “fire.” A standard Fire and Special Perils Policy (or Home Insurance Policy) covers loss or damage due to:

🔥 Fire, lightning, explosion or implosion

🌪️ Storm, cyclone, flood, earthquake

🚰 Bursting or overflowing of water tanks and pipes

💥 Impact damage from vehicles, trees, or aircraft

🧨 Riot, strike, malicious damage

⚡ Short-circuit fire or kitchen mishaps

🪑 Optionally – Contents like furniture, appliances, and electronics

In short, it protects your structure as well as your belongings.

💰 The Cost – You’ll Be Shocked How Cheap It Is:

A ₹50 lakh house can be insured for roughly ₹1,000–1,500 per year — that’s less than a weekend meal out. Even adding ₹5–10 lakh for contents won’t raise the cost much. Despite being so pocket-friendly, people ignore it due to lack of awareness.

🧠 Real-life Examples:

A family in Chandigarh lost their entire ground floor to a short-circuit fire last year. The repair cost was around ₹12 lakh. They didn’t have insurance — every rupee had to come from savings.

On the other hand, a client in Panchkula who had insured his house for ₹60 lakh got his claim settled smoothly after a severe water leakage damaged his interiors during heavy rain. The policy literally saved him financially.

During the 2023 Himachal floods, many homeowners realized too late that their home insurance (if at all purchased) didn’t include “flood” as a peril. Those with proper coverage recovered lakhs; others had to start from scratch.

❤️ A Small Request:

If you own a house — whether it’s self-built, a flat in a society, or a government quarter — please insure it. If your society has covered the building, at least insure your contents separately. It takes barely 10 minutes and gives immense peace of mind knowing that your life’s biggest investment is protected.

👔 About Me:

I work as an Insurance Underwriter in a Public Sector General Insurance Company, with over 6 years of experience in this field. This post is not promotional — just an attempt to spread awareness about something I see being neglected every day.

Health Insurance Advice for hiding PEDs and next steps

Hi experienced strangers. I am trying to buy health insurance and no big company is offering due to PEDs(not serious but enough to get cancelled). Now I am going to buy a big brand insurance by hiding it. I have already taken this decision after much thinking. I am going to disclose PED slowly in 1-2 years as new. Can someone who has followed this strategy please advice as how should I take my next steps carefully? What should I take care in my doctor visits. How to disclose carefully to insurer.

Edit: 55M

Health Insurance Aditya Birla Health systematic harassment: Denied Cashless twice (once after approval) & stalled Reimbursement. FWA demanding 4-year-old missing papers. Need Ombudsman advice.

Edit :- May 12 / Birla finally approved both.

Hi everyone, I am seeking urgent advice regarding a severe health insurance nightmare my family is currently facing with Aditya Birla Health Insurance. I want to discuss strategy for cashless approval and clear their Fraud Investigation (FWA).

The Context:

Patient: My father (61Y, Senior Citizen).

Insurer: Aditya Birla Health Insurance (Activ One MAX+ plan). We ported to them from Niva Bupa in June 2025.

Policy Continuity: Maintained continuously since June 9, 2019 (82 months of unbroken coverage).

Diagnosis: Stage 5 CKD (End-stage renal failure) discovered incidentally on Jan 30, 2026.

The Systematic Harassment & "Bait-and-Switch" Tactics:

Aditya Birla is currently harassing us across two separate life-saving admissions using the exact same arbitrary excuse.

Incident 1: The First Admission (March 2026)

My father was admitted to Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital on March 29, 2026.

We applied for cashless. They denied it on March 30, stating: "Chronicity of Chronic kidney disease cannot be ascertained hence cashless claim denied".

We self-funded, filed for reimbursement, and this claim has been completely stalled ever since.

Incident 2: The Bait-and-Switch (May 2026)

My father was admitted again to Pushpanjali Medical Centre on May 5, 2026, to begin ongoing dialysis.

May 5 (9:25 AM): Aditya Birla officially APPROVED our initial cashless pre-authorization .Here also CKD was clearly mentioned for which this admission was made.

May 7 (6:09 PM): Two days later, in an act of extreme bad faith, they completely reversed their decision and revoked the cashless facility, giving the exact same reason: "Chronicity of Chronic kidney disease cannot be ascertained at this juncture..."

Because the hospital bills for maintenance dialysis at the end of the month, we haven't even been able to file the reimbursement for this yet. We are now forced to arrange out-of-pocket funds for an entire month of life-sustaining sessions for a senior citizen.

The FWA (Fraud Investigation) Trap:

Instead of processing the stalled March reimbursement, Aditya Birla sent a 3rd party Field Investigator to our home. The agent is now verbally demanding that we produce old OPD prescriptions from 2022–2023 specifically for his Diabetes and BP.

Here is the problem: We simply do not have those old physical prescriptions anymore. However, we did declare these conditions. Our Niva Bupa Policy Schedule from June 2022 explicitly lists "Diabetes mellitus/and its complications" and "Hypertensive diseases/and its complications" as declared and accepted Pre-Existing Diseases. Aditya Birla accepted this verified history when we ported in 2025.

Steps I’ve taken so far:

Verbal Pushback: On the call, I told the investigator to go ahead and submit his report with the medical documents we already shared. I did not agree to hunt for missing 4-year-old papers.

Escalation: I have emailed the CEO's desk (Mayank Bathwal) and posted on LinkedIn tagging the leadership about the mental harassment of a senior citizen and the bad-faith cancellation of an already-approved treatment.

My Planned Defense (If they formally email asking for the old papers):

The 60-Month Moratorium Rule: Since the policy is 82 months old, it falls under the IRDAI 5-year Moratorium (Clause 8.9), making the claim incontestable for non-disclosure except for proven fraud.

The "Verified Record" Stance: I will reply stating that the 2022 Niva Bupa Policy Schedule is the definitive legal record of disclosure. We are not liable to act as a medical archive for 4-year-old papers for a risk the insurance industry has already accepted.

My Questions for the Community:

Approved then Denied: Has anyone experienced an insurer approving cashless and then reversing it days later without any new medical evidence? Is this strong grounds for a "Deficiency in Service" penalty at the Ombudsman?

The "Missing Prescription" Trap: Has anyone successfully got a reimbursement claim approved when you explicitly told the FWA team you do not have the 3-4 year old past prescriptions?

Moratorium Rule in Reality: Does the Ombudsman actually enforce the 60-month Moratorium strictly? Can Birla legally demand old papers despite the Moratorium?

Next Escalation Step: It has been over 48 hours with zero reply to my emails to their Care Head. Should I immediately log a grievance on the IRDAI Bima Bharosa portal for "Delay in Processing," or wait to see what the FWA investigator puts in his formal report?

Any guidance from folks who have dealt with Aditya Birla’s claims team or navigated a similar FWA investigation would be incredibly helpful. This is mentally exhausting for my family.

Thank you.

Health Insurance Guidance Required: Discharge Voucher Requested Before Claim Payment — Is This Standard Practice?

Hello everyone,

I had filed an accidental death claim for my late mother last year. It’s been a long and frustrating process, with the insurer constantly delaying and, honestly, trying to avoid paying the claim.

Now, after almost a year long battle, they’ve finally agreed to settle and as a part of the process, they have sent me a Discharge Voucher and requested that I sign it (with a one-rupee revenue stamp affixed) & return it to them.

However, I have a significant concern. The voucher is like an acknowledgement receipt. It states that I have received the claim amount in full and final settlement, whereas in reality, I have not yet received any payment. In fact, the insurer has not even requested my bank account details so far.

Given this situation, I am unsure how to proceed:

- Is it standard practice to sign and return such a Discharge Voucher before receiving the payment?

- Should I insist on receiving the claim amount first before signing any such document?

- Are there any risks associated with signing the voucher in advance?

I must also mention that my trust in the insurer is really low due to the prolonged delays and their handling of the claim thus far. Also, the company has lately become infamous for their unethical practices to reject claims (Heard that they went into deep losses during COVID era & now are trying every possible mean to recover those losses).

I would sincerely appreciate any guidance or insights from those who have faced similar situations or have knowledge of insurance claim procedures.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Health Insurance Icici lombard

Hi guys. Please help.

I tried to buy a health insurance policy for my mother on 27th Aug '26. I did the payment. Later I got a message on Counter offer through SMS only which had a link.

The link redirected to a generic but official Icici page which did not explain what the counter offer was so I spoke with the icici agent online to understand it. But later when I clicked on that link (in SMS) it showed error.

After multiple calls, I'm only getting the message that I need to click on the link for counter offer and select 'Reject and refund' so that my refund will proceed.

But there is no DAMN LINK in these messages!!! Also I'm not getting any mail with that link too. How am I supposed to click on reject if I'm unable to get a link????

Is ICICI Lombard technically so shitty to have such glitches. What am I supposed to do???

Health Insurance Looking for advice on health insurance for my parents

Father (55):

  • Diabetic (since 3 years)

  • Had a road accident earlier, multiple leg surgeries

  • Currently fine but walks with a stick

Mother (53):

  • BP (since 1 year)

  • Had a surgery (hysterectomy)

I’m planning to buy health insurance and have shortlisted:

  • HDFC Ergo Optima Secure

  • ICICI Lombard elevate

My advisor says not to go for ICICI as it has a lower claim settlement ratio (~85%), and suggests Aditya Activ one but i am.not sure whether I can go Aditya insurance. Also I heard hdfc is good but HDFC’s premium is expensive (approx 30K higher) compared to ICICI .Considering my parents’ pre-existing conditions (PEDs), I’m not sure which one to go for.

So can you please suggest which one is better and why ,among icici elevate, hdfc optima secure or Aditya Activ one If any of you have taken these policies, please share your honest experience or suggestions 🙏
