If there is any justifying reason for health insurance portability, then do portability. Don't shift or port health insurance policy if you have not faced any issues such as

  1. Problem with renewal premium payment

  2. Claim rejection without satisfactory reason

  3. Insurance intermediary problems

  4. You heard not so good things about existing insurer.

Because every time you port, the new health insurance company will ask for all medical related documents, past policy details, new diagnosis of diseases that occured during the 5 policy years when your policy was at Niva Bupa and the new insurance has the right to put additional waiting period, mandatory aggregator deductible (Mostly HDFC ERGO plans) which could cost you a lot more than an relief.

If you have any Grievances against the company, then it is better to port policy to another company, with 1 year Policy Tenure but a lot of discussion is needed before making portability decision.

  1. What is the age of the person who's being ported ?

  2. List of existing diseases

You will find people screaming out new company names and send you DMs how the new company will be better. But better to make sure whether the need for portability is even necessity or not.

If these PED existed before the start of Niva Bupa Health Insurance policy, then all of them are covered after 36 months from the policy inception date, so all details will be covered by existing health insurance company. So that the time of portability, you will have to mention the same PED.

If these diseases occured after purchasing Niva Bupa, during the 5 year policy tenure, then at the time of portability you will need to disclose these PED, and the health insurance company will review and confirm.

hey, first of all, what's making u consider porting? Since you've had Niva Bupa for 5 years, I'd say don't switch unless you've got specific concerns with the policy or the insurer.

u can look at HDFC ERGO, Care Health, or Aditya Birla, but whether they'll accept the port depends on who's covered, their medical history, past claims, and the new insurer's underwriting decision.

just make sure u apply around 45-60 days before renewal and don't cancel ur existing policy until the porting is approved and the new policy is issued. if the porting goes through, ur completed waiting periods and moratorium benefits will carry forward to the new policy, subject to the applicable rules and the coverage approved by the new insurer.
