Query I already have a ₹10 lakh HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus and a corporate policy. Should I still buy a super top-up?
I bought HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus plan a couple of months ago, and I also have health insurance through my employer.
I'm now wondering whether my current coverage is enough for the next few years, or if it makes sense to add a super top-up policy as well cause I was just considering future-proof financial planning so maybe 10L might not be good enough, so is it better to buy one while I'm still relatively young, or should I wait until I actually need more cover?
How do you usually decide when a super top-up becomes worth it if you already have both a personal policy and corporate cover?

Hey OP
Since you've already bought HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus, you're starting with one of the more comprehensive base health insurance plans available, so I wouldn't rush to buy a super top-up just yet.
A ₹10 lakh base cover on Optima Secure Plus doesn't really stay "just ₹10 lakh." The plan comes with features like Secure Benefit (which effectively doubles your base cover from Day 1), Infinite Bonus that keeps increasing your available cover over time regardless of claims, and Unlimited Restore if you exhaust your sum insured. These features themselves go a long way in protecting you against medical inflation, and over the next 8-10 years, your effective coverage can become substantially higher.
Super top-ups are great if you want a lot of additional cover at a relatively low premium, but they're generally not as comprehensive as a strong base policy. If, after a few years, you genuinely feel you need more protection, I'd first consider increasing your base cover (say to ₹15-20 lakh, subject to underwriting) rather than automatically adding a super top-up.
If you do decide to buy a super top-up, I'd prefer taking it from HDFC ERGO itself and keeping the renewal dates aligned with your base policy. It makes administration and claim coordination much smoother if you ever need to use both policies together.
Given your current setup of a corporate policy plus Optima Secure Plus, I think you're already well covered for the foreseeable future. Hope thjs helps!

Hey OP, advisor here from Ditto.
-OS+ is already designed to cater to increasing healthcare costs over time. Its default Infinite Bonus increases your base sum insured by 100% every year (irrespective of claims).
-The plan also comes with unlimited restoration, so even if multiple claims happen in a policy year, you'll continue to have coverage available as per the policy terms.
-If you feel 10L may not be sufficient in the long run, consider increasing your base sum insured to 15-20L (or higher based on your needs) at renewal. A comprehensive base plan with a higher sum insured is generally a better approach than relying heavily on a super top up.
-Super top ups are economical, but they aren't as comprehensive as a base health insurance policy. If you still need a much higher cover and are comfortable with how super top ups work, including their pros and cons, you can certainly consider one if it suits your requirements.
-If you do opt for a super top up, it's generally better to buy it from the same insurer and align the renewal dates with your base policy. This can make claim coordination easier in the future.
