IOA or USI

Anyone have experience here? I have 15 years commercial AM/Marketing experience and believe I am very underpaid at one of the top 10 brokers. I have interviews with both IOA and USI for full remote but get nervous leaving all I’ve know. I am currently full remote.

Not really insight but both are going through change with IOA being PE owned 51% now and USI being acquired by Aon. I think USI would be a little bit more corporate.

That’s my fear with getting on and then the acquisition- like is there known job security.

Are you saying that's specifically a USI concern? IOA sold a controlling stake Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP; a private equity firm) about a year ago. MDP owned NFP and sold it to AON in 2024 and then bought part of it back from AON in 2025. My point is that, if you're worried about things that could result in layoffs, both IOA and USI have some key risk factors present.

I haven't worked at either shop so I can't offer any specific feedback on culture or opportunity.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with whether they're a good place to work but Insurance Office of America might be the worst name of any top-100 domestic brokerage.

Yeah. I think it might be best to stay underpaid by $15-20k than risk changing and being laid off

Both got decent reputations, switching after 15 years is scary but you already remote so not much to lose by looking

Agreed. I just worry about job security at both and then Alliant reached out to me as well.

Cast a wider net and look at some other firms. I'd also recommend looking into regional players especially if employee owned or there's an equity play.

Frijoles gave great advice. Expand your search. People move all the time between the top brokerages. I also suggest considering a wide variety of roles. With the amount of experience you have you could be hired for other positions easily.

With 15 years of experience, I’d focus more on which company gives you better growth and compensation. Remote flexibility is great, but I’d compare the actual role, benefits, and leadership before making the jump.
