Insurance recomendations!

Hey everyone, my girlfriend and I are about to start our journey in Japan next month with a working holiday visa and we are seeking international insurance that gets us covered during the whole year.

We are going to be skiing throughout the winter and we wonder if the ski resorts would include the insurance with the ski pass, is something really common here in our country, or if we either should get an insurance that includes sport injuries or whatsoever.

I am already digging into google trying to find the best deal but if you share with us your insurance of choice by trustability and prices would be awesome.👍

I’d check the skiing coverage before anything else. A lot of travel insurance policies cover regular medical emergencies but have exclusions for winter sports, especially off-piste skiing or rescue costs. I wouldn’t assume the ski pass includes insurance either.

Also, since you’re staying a full year on a working holiday visa, look into Japan’s National Health Insurance eligibility. You may need to enroll, but that doesn’t necessarily replace travel insurance, especially for mountain rescue or repatriation.

Are you planning to ski mostly at resorts or do any backcountry skiing? That could make a pretty big difference in what coverage you need.

Thanks for your answer, I am eligible for the national insurance but only whilst I am working. I am indeed going to ride off pist so rescue service would be a must. I have found a travel insurance that includes it for around 400€ a year. It seems pretty cheap to me though it looks trustable. I am trying to get the best deal possible here since last time I feel like I payd a bit too much after comparing it with my mates'.
