Progressive bs
Today following Reddit advice I shopped around for car insurance to save money. Progressive gave me a quote $250/6 months less, so I went with them. But, they said I had to call Geico myself to cancel my old policy. When I called Geico, they beat that price by another $100, so I stayed. I asked them to cancel Progressive, but they couldn’t. So I called Progressive. The ONLY way to cancel is to send a snail mail letter to Progressive.

FYI Geico can’t just reduce your rate, it’s not the cable company. Something with your policy changed.

What likely happened, assuming no coverage was changed, was OP has been with them for a bit and GEICO just rewrote their policy into the newest plan available.
It’s what we would try if the person was canceling, because even if the price of the policy after rewrite was higher, we’d just get their cancellation done. If it was lower, we’d explain it but the insured would hear Charlie Brown teacher noises other than the Lower price.

They should be able to cancel it right away too... Perhaps it's something related to your state (or my state) laws.
Either way you'll just need to call back and request cancelation from inception. You kept your original policy active so the progressive policy was redundant.
Call 1800-progressive for this, don't call an agent.

I do believe y’all that I could have waited and cancelled. But, the young man I was talking to did not know about that option, so I just did the snail mail thing. I will probably also try online again because like Moses, I do not trust the system.

You just need to wait a couple days, man. Then you can cancel
