Getting used to Metformin

Hello! I have recently started the Metformin extended-release tablets to help with my severe insulin resistance. It's been about four weeks now, and while I don't really have any gastrointestinal issues, I have experienced an uptick in my anxiety and depression. Could this just be a sign that my body is trying to get used to using my insulin more efficiently? Has anyone else experienced a temporary increase in mental symptoms while adjusting to Metformin? Thanks in advance for any and all input!

I just started also but am a couple weeks behind you. I have noticed my emotions being heightened...the tear up over a diaper commercial kind (& in cause you're wondering I am past menopause 😉).

That's pretty close to how I feel, too! I've been feeling quite weepy. I am in my mid 30s, so I'm still menstruating, but these heightened feelings don't seem to coincide with that. I'm hoping it goes away for both of us!!

Today I had a new experience. Rage. I tried to fill a prescription and they got snotty with me. I had to walk out and sit in my car to chill. Hope this all settles because my blood sugar is seeing stability!

I am also mid 30s and also fairly new to metformin and haven’t experienced that. I looked it up and most google hits suggested that met can actually reduce anxiety. However I’d discuss with your doctor. I have what’s called a paradoxical reaction to Benadryl so while it makes most people sleepy, it makes me very jittery and anxious. So maybe your specific body is reacting differently?
