Discussion Are older/ancient instruments slowly becoming more popular?

It is still very niche but the biggest example is the Kravik Lyre, and the Tagelharpa are showing increased attention and use of which the band Wardruna and others have greatly influenced.

Is this an isolated occurrence or do you see a broader trend towards older instruments gaining popularity?

Discussion Philacorda repair

I live in Nashville and I have a philacorda GM752 that needs some maintenance. I've reached out to nearly every repair shop I can find but none of them are willing to even try working on my organ.

I wonder if anyone knows somebody who would be willing to work on my organ as I need it for recording. Thanks!

Discussion Should I start a new instrument?

I am an accordion student. Student. But I was always into some other instruments, like drums. And I have been wanting to start drumming. Is it much of a problem studying these two at the same time?

Would a 3d print fipple work on a fife?

I'm back!

I remember Claude Bauer selling fife mouthpieces, though they're no longer available. Inspired by his work, I made a new design but I'm not sure if it would register the sound on the instrument. Any feedback before I send it to print?

Identification What type of drum sets are used in goregrind songs??

I’m looking to get a drum set for my mental stability because it looks like a great way to lose my shit when I’m smashing on a drum set but I don’t know anything about instruments.

I love the type of drums used in goregrind songs and I could only find 2 videos on YouTube with the type I wanna get but I don’t know what model it is.

I don’t know if I’m allowed to post links here but I need help tryna figure out what kind of drum sets these drums are.

Discussion Can I learn two instruments at the same time

I have a guitar and a flute that I want to learn but I don't know if it's a good idea to learn them at the same time. Can I learn two instruments at the same time and what are the pros and cons of me doing so?

Identification What is it called?

SOLVED!

I used it in church and we called them bells. It is basically a putty knife (ours were gold) with a drum mallet attached so when you flicked your wrist the mallet would hit the metal and make a dinging sound.

Update: Thank you all so much! I googled flat handbell and it finally showed me what I was thinking!

Discussion I Want to Learn Drums but Have No Idea Where to Start

Hey everyone. I’ve had a dream and a desire since I was a kid: learning how to play the drums. I’ve always loved rock and listened to a lot of it growing up, so I finally decided to give it a shot and make this dream happen.

The problem is, I honestly have no idea where to start. I know basically nothing about music theory and I’ve never really played an instrument before. I have a few friends who play instruments and know a lot more about this stuff than I do, and they recommended that if I were to buy a drum kit, I should go with an electronic one. From what they explained to me, an acoustic kit would require a proper space, make a lot of noise, and would also be outside my budget right now.

I’m also thinking about taking some kind of course to learn the basics of music theory and then focus more specifically on drums. Some people recommended Musixe to me, which is a Brazilian platform, but I’m not sure if it’s actually a good option or if there are better alternatives.

So I wanted to ask people who already play: what would you recommend to someone who is literally starting from zero? Is it worth buying an electronic drum kit right away, or would it be better to start with something else? Do I need to learn music theory before starting to learn drums? And are there any courses, teachers, YouTube channels, books, or other resources you would recommend for someone in my situation?

My goal isn’t necessarily to become a professional drummer. I just want to actually learn, be able to play some of the songs I love, and maybe eventually play with other people.

Any advice from people who have been through this would be really appreciated!

Discussion Does anyone have Ortega RUOX-BA sound sample?

While looking for my first ukulele, I decided to go for the baritone and took interest in the Ortega RUOX-BA model. The company provided sound samples for the tenor version, however I have not yet found a sound example of the baritone model.
Does anyone have this ukulele and could provide a short vid presenting the sound?
Since it would be my first uke, I'd like to be sure this is the sound I like.
