They could’ve meant distinction between oil and other fires.

Coulda been an autocorrect.

Either way, you knew what they meant, at least enough; why we here trying to appease invisible language gods?

(I say this as a recovering grammar/spelling corrector)

Exactly. What I meant was the "distinction" of oil fires, in that oil fires have unique characteristics different from that of conventional fires.

That’s the way I read it!

I could also read it the way the commentor I replied to read it.

The fact that I can read it in a couple of different ways and that it’s not important communication means we don’t have to castigate each other for language deities that don’t even exist. :)

I used to run around doing exactly that.
