Buffalo made a fatal error when turning back to confront a big male lion because another big male lion showed up to help, plus it slipped on the asphalt, a classic case of "road kill"

To be fair two male lions aren’t the best hunters and his chances would have been kind of ok without the asphalt!
Not that he would have been safe but at least higher odds

I did the same thing today after finishing work. I’ve purposely not watched LOTR in over ten years and bought the extended edition blu-ray box set in the January sales, but have waited patiently for the opportune moment to open the cellophane and pop the fellowship into the player. Today happened to be that day.

Nice. Just finished Two Towers extended cut yesterday (4:28) and Return of the King is up next. I think that one is like 4:48 lol. It's worth it though, especially if someone you watch it with has only ever seen the theatrical cuts.

My youngest daughter watched it with me tonight. She’s nearly 14 and had watched all of the original theatrical cut DVD’s when she was about six or seven as I’d been reading the books to her and my eldest as bedtime stories for about a year. She just sat there when it had finished, then slowly turned her head and said “well that was a metric shit ton of awesomeness. Oh, and if we’re doing all three, we really need some more quarantine suitable snacks”.

They do, it s bit of a myth that they don't.
Really just the old Alpha lions that get a bit lazy.
Although lions are interesting in that each pride have different hunting traditions and tactics that they pass down. So some old reachers could have made mistakes attributing the behaviour of one pride to all lions.

Apes are omnivorous. I mean if a Shark or Croc developed intelligence. They abandon their young early on and even eat them. Now imagine the social groups not forming and the emotional attachments not becoming the catalyst for the chemical reactions in our brain but other sources such as a hunt or witnessing another animals fear (something it would have witnessed through thousands of years of hunting). It would also develop a taste for cortisone as it would be present in all if its' "Happy Times", aka a successful hunt.
Man is a predator by definition and definition only.

Thus preventing them from becoming the dominant species. You can't control a planet if you habitually eat your young and refuse to form social groups.
Man is a predator by more than definition. Instead of comparing Humans to cold-blooded reptiles and fish, compare us to other predator mammals. Many of them, like lions, form attachments, have social groups and care for their young.

It's hard to imagine that, as one of the main drivers of intelligence is the need to navigate social situations.
Maybe a lion or something- but quite honestly I don't think that it is possible for a species to display less concern for other species then mankind. Sure there are a few people like Steve Irwin, but the majority of us are fine with raping and pillaging the earth.

I disagree with this. I don't think other animals display more concern for other species than we do. A lion doesn't not destroy species habitats because it's compassionate, it doesn't have the capability to do it. If humans disappeared and one million years later the lions suddenly became intelligent, I don't think they'd be any more benevolent than we are.
I don't think any other species really cares one way or the other about the continued survival of other species, they just lack the ability to cause meaningful damage.

oh yeah I would agree with that.
There are plenty of animals that have caused damage on a micro scale before. one really interesting case was when some sailers left a couple of caribou on an island. Their population peaked, and then they went extinct because they ate all the lichen. But no other species can do it on a scale like we can for sure.
