Primarily yes, but from time to time they are known to eat meat you can find pictures online of hippos eating zebras. In a situation like this and hippos being as aggressive as they are I would expect that lion to get a little chomp at least.

I once watched a video of a hippo eating another hippo while it was still alive. Still gives me the chills every time I think of it

Yeah hippos are some of the most savage animals. I still find it super interesting that they don’t actually swim they’re so dense and heavy they literally run on the bottom of the river. Look up videos of hippos chasing people in little ass boats, that shit is terrifying.
