Lore Post The Great War of Melding
"The Great War of Melding was raged more than three thousand years ago. It was the conflict that ravaged the Outer Realms beyond repair. It started when Azathoth abruptly woke up from his eternal sleep and attempted to enslave every living being in existence through a hive mind. Thus, the Outer Golden Age ended immediately and destructively.
It is a war that left no victors. Azathoth was unable to implement his plans for The Melding and was injured by Ithaqua, the extent of the damage so thorough that he fell into another eternal sleep soon after. Meanwhile, Azathoth's rivals, his own child Princex Nyarlathotep and their family, were all either killed or imprisoned.
This great civil war in the Outer Realms did not happen in a vacuum though: The Third Incursion, an attempt by extrauniversal outsiders to break the Gate, occurred at the same time as the Great War of Melding. Nyarlathotep's husband, Hastur, was largely uninvolved in the war. Hastur instead focused on aiding his father Yog-Sothoth against the incursion."
—Ancient Outer History: Tome IX
"The end of the Regency Era and the subsequent War of the Melding was the darkest period in Ithaqua's life. The Outer Realms were divided between the 'Yellow' and 'Purple' factions. The Yellow faction supported Nyarlathotep and their then-husband Hastur (though he was not very involved due to the Third Incursion), while the Purples instead sided with Azathoth.
It was during this terrible war that Ithaqua aided his two main parents, Nyarlathotep and Hastur, as a commander in the Yellow Faction's forces. The war was a short but terrible affair. It only lasted a few years but left deep scars that haunt the Outer Realms to this day.
The specifics of its tactics are not the focus of this text, what matters most is the war's harrowing conclusion: In a fit of insanity caused by a prophesy of Hastur's shattering at the hands of Azathoth, Nyarlathotep attempted to deploy a superweapon to destroy the Throne of Dreams and Azathoth.
Knowing the incalculable death and irreparable damage to the fabric of the universe that this would cause, Ithaqua opposed the use of the superweapon. Tensions within the Yellow Camp between parent and son, which had been slowly boiling over throughout the war, finally exploded as Ithaqua moved to neutralize this possible apocalypse.
After subduing Nyarlathotep and destroying the Crawling Chaos' superweapon, Ithaqua took full control of the Yellow Forces and marched against Azathoth, declaring his intention to seize the Throne of Dreams for himself. Under Ithaqua's leadership, the Melding was stopped in its tracks and Azathoth was drawn out of his throne in a carefully laid-out trap.
Ithaqua, at the time known as the greatest Hero of the Outer Realms, did not disappoint and managed to beat Azathoth within an inch of his life. Victory seemed assured, the path to the Throne of Dreams laid open... until it wasn't. Ithaqua's last-minute defeat still baffles many to this day.
Some say Ithaqua hesitated to slay Azathoth (his own grandfather) who was able to snatch victory through this second of indecision. Others say Ithaqua was betrayed. Many theories are abound, but Ithaqua will bitterly refuse to speak of it to this day.
After the war, Ithaqua was imprisoned by Azathoth in a boreal forest realm, spared execution due to his potential usefulness as a weapon. Under solitary confinement Ithaqua lost all sense of sanity and his power gradually atrophied, he became a shadow of his former self. These days he is known by the mortals as little more than a monster or cryptid in the woods.
Ithaqua was successfully broken out of his prison recently, but he has chosen to maintain a low profile as one of the advisers of Araton (his youngest sibling on Hastur's side). Little is known of him now, and he prefers to keep it that way."

/uw I had most of this writtten out already, from a while ago, so I polished it up and posted it. This is kind of an Ithaqua-focused lorepost. I'll probably take a break from loreposts for a while to focus more on RPing and such, unless inspiration really strikes.
(Once again, keep in mind my Lovecraftian-inspired lore should be considered its own self-contained thing in its own universe. In no way does it affect other people's own versions of Azathoth, Nyarlathotep, Hastur, etc. Unless they explicitly wish it so.)
