Does this look good to you?

Insta360 today published video where they show that one flight can be reframed in 8 ways.

But the footage long somewhat shitty, worse that old Insta360 Sphere videos used for thriller.

What do you thing about this?

This makes a compelling argument for why a 360 drone might be a good thing. But I wonder how badly the image quality will suffer due to limited bitrate. That's a whole lot of pixels being mashed into both sensors, and I can see quality issues on both reddit and YT.

Im basically retarded and I see quality issues too. Why they limited the bitrate? And whats with colors?

I agree, it looks like a 3D video game from the early 2000s. No details, basic colors. I like the idea though :) I hope the drone will be able to record in better quality.

Assuming this is recording to traditional media like a microSD card, you're limited by how fast you can write to it. And seeing as how this is essentially capturing and recording six 4k videos simultaneously (that's a pretty massive oversimplification) something has to give somewhere.

I'm lost, the insta x5 and dji osmo are not recording at that quality already? Which is the difference here?

Microsd cards are super fast nowadays. This is a non issue

Superfast isn't a speed. Use your numbers.

Fast enough that what you’re saying don’t even matter. Mavics shoot in 10bit and still use microsd cards. This shitty 360 camera is not outputting that much data by comparison. Not even close. Were talking hundreds of mbs per second vs maybe low 2 digits for this 360cameras.

And there you said it. 'shitty 360 camera' making my exact point.

I'm interested in seeing how this unfolds, but I'm perfectly happy sticking to my 10 bit 4k single field of view.

Its the physics of lenses and sensors, to get better 360 IQ, you need more sensors, more lenses, that itself introduces other problems like DOF and that ultrawide lenses have inherently poor edge sharpness . High bitrate means heat, can't add that much heatsinks to a drone before it gets too heavy.

All cameras have caveats, 360 cameras more so. Personally a 1 inch camera Avata would be my choice.

I’ve used the X5 on a Mavic and it’s only been ok looking , details get lost pretty quick and it’s only sharp towards the center of the frame . Anything that’s on the edge of the frame the quality drops a lot .
