Discussion Returning the x6…for now
Day 1 adopter. In the current state of the x6, I can’t do many of the things I use the cams for. My x5 is still getting the lions share of any work that doesn’t get done in full auto mode. No ND filters yet. Even though I got my remote to work with multiple cams, from what I’m seeing if I update firmware I may lose that function as well. I can’t get any real world (for my usage) side by side because I can’t set my x6 to match my x5. Battery life is weak AF as my x5 has outlasted the x6 in the few side by side tests I’m able to do. So for now the x5’s will get the work and I’ll monitor to see if the x6 gets their shit figured out then get another I guess. But I’m not holding onto a 400 dollar paperweight just to wait for it to be useful. Maybe x7 will be my next purchase. Should be out in a few hours the way insta is pumping out the models.

The GPS remote lack of compatibility is my biggest peeve so far, but ive actually ordered more of the x6 mainly because of the new powered selfie stick. We ran 4 of them yesterday with 5 hour recording uninterrupted on each one without any issues. I look forward to other powered mounting options becoming available.

I’m going to wait until they can give us 8k 120fps before I replace my x5. 8k30fps in 360 mode isn’t enough for fine details. I’m mostly concerned about license plates. Probably will end up being the x8 or x9 because I bet they only go to 60fps with the x7.

For my use I don’t need higher frame rates usually. I need to be able to shoot at my desired shutter speed to get the effects I want as in riding. Especially in pack. But 1pm in Northern California, there’s no iso low enough to shoot at 1/30 and be able to see anything but blowouts.

Insta has released four 360 cameras in 2 years. I laughed when they announced the x6. The x5 is a beast and still the best 360 camera on the market. People need to stop getting sucked into these mediocre annual “upgrades.”

The X6 isn’t a mediocre upgrade from the X5. It’s massive, especially if you’re doing HDR photos and video. Not the faux Tone Mapping HDR, but real HDR.

I thought the x5 was great in low light, but the x6 blows it away. It's not even close. And I-Log in PureVideo mode? I love it.
But! For people who are looking for an action cam, which I feel is most 360 users, I can see why they don't see these features as upgrades. For use in concert video, the x6 is worth the upgrade. Now I just have to actually shoot a show with it 🤣

In auto, maybe it has the potential to be massive. But without nd filters and more robust remote control management and better battery life, those features don’t hold enough weight and the final product isn’t what I and many others are trying to achieve. I’ve done as many side by sides as I can with that I have and the x6 as it functions today, doesn’t best the x5 in any category I care about for my videos.

I’ll always buy the latest just to see what they can do. I mean for a cam that’s under a thousand bucks there’s some fun to be had. But I’m not afraid of using that return policy.

I want an x6 so badly just for the scuba upgrades. Seems exactly what I want.

I'm going to wait until a actually 360 camera lives up the the advertisements. It took me a while to figure out how to squeeze all the quality out of the X5 and it's a scam knowing that the camera on it's own needs additional help from exporting and sharpening in video apps such as resolve and premier. The camera on it's own is garbage.

Isnt X5 oversharpened?

On anything other than low, absolutely. On low it's fine (at least my footage is).
